most of those readers are broke and villages cant afford to replace them due to budget problems . Don't worry about them. The public taxpayers are being overcharged for this junk as usual and they cant afford them when they break .

conservative republican boy -you don't get it. if i collect data on all the cars around me and sell it, use it and/or share it with companies, agencies and perhaps other countries, would I be operating within the law?
it would be different if it was explicitly stated that license plate data would be used to track citizens, share with companies like macy's and occasionally abused by employees.
"if you do nothing wrong then you have nothing to hide" - as an individual, maybe. you take your privacy and space much less seriously than i. but as an individual as part of a society beholden to a powerful institution? my individual data contributes to something i never agreed to.

OK Mr Lawman, people are innocent until proven guilty, I know that's a foreign concept for you lawmen. Does the gov, police have the right to intrude to see IF you've done anything. Leave the law abiding citizens alone, you have no right to intrude. What a Gestopo state we have become, another government intrusion.
And I suppose its all the dictator's fault or the govt's? Stop crying and get over it! It's the change we've been waiting to come.

Thank you Anarchist. You not only provided a legit, workable solution to the delima I face (gotta be able to pay my fines to get my liscense back, gotta work to do that, gotta drive to work...) But as I read this thread, you dropped a lot of truth. Fact is, the LPR cameras are just a technological investment in the hope of financial return. They wouldn't invest that kind of money unless they plan on getting it back. Personally, I feel like property tax is an abhorrent transgression against us. You mean I have to pay an annual fee, and a monthly insurance bill, just to continue to own something I already paid for?! That's constitutional?!

For those unaware, in many states if you own an unregistered vehicle you first recieve a warning to pay your property taxes and get a legal plate or they impound it and fine you $150 on top of the initial impound and storage fee.

These LPRs are just another form of control.

I don't like the idea of these things. Its not that I'm breaking any law or I'm wanted. Its the implications and the power that this type of technology provides.I feel as though with our smart phones computers and other devices we can basically be tracked anywhere we go.Now every time your car goes by one of these "plate readers" I'm supposed to sit back and believe that some government system isn't keeping a log of my whereabouts on the road ? Like I said its the implications..... Say 15 years ago I got a misdemeanor assault conviction and somebody gets assaulted in the same area one of these plate scanners scans my plate around the same time.... I don't want to be bothered just because I was driving down the road and in my past I punched a sissy dickhead a couple times and I happen to be in the area. Or if I got a DUI 10 years ago on a Friday night I don't wanna be stopped every Friday night because of some hard on cop looking at a plate scanner...
This technology is going beyond keeping everyone safe.... Its going beyond upholding the law..Its going beyond creating revenue... Its downright intrusive, its almost a borderline judge and jury and I don't even REMOTELY like the idea of any government agency, MORE SO law enforcement keeping tabs on me or scanning me or anything I own....

What's next ? That's the question that bothers me... What level of technology is going to be implemented next ? Are we going to have to scan I government issued ID to go into stores or if we want to eave the county or state ? Are we going to mount these scanners at every intersection ? At what point , do we say this is getting out of hand ?

But because of the way they slowly implement this kind of stuff no one will complain and nothing will be done... We will all wake up one morning, the government will be watching you drive out of your garage to go to work, mandating things like flu shots and before we know it we will just be a bunch of zombies wandering around groaning all the time saying wtf happened ?

Y'all can go on and let happen because in all honesty most of what I just said its only a matter of time... It happens so slowly and they always implement things in the name of safety or some kid that died etc etc....All the bleeding heart liberalism bull....

The founding fathers have turned over in their graves already, now they're throwing up in their coffins.....

For some of you trying to beat the police, here are some more ideas:

Try registering car in another's name. If that's not possible, register the car in a New Mexico LLC. I think the NM LLC will work in most states except maybe California. In order to get the LLC, you either have to live in NM or have an agent resident work on your behalf. You can get them online. The NM LLC does not require your name, so if a vehicle is registered under such, only the name of LLC comes up.

For more info on NM LLC's, Google JJ Luna.
Also, never put the address where you actually live on your license. I use an address where I get my mail delivered to, instead.

My motto is that it is always best to never have any contact period with the police, as no good thing can ever come of it....

These things look for the reflective paint of your plates. If you can stop the reflection it stops the readers from even "seeing" your plate and there goes their $40 thousand dollar toy. If you spray the plates with Testor's Dullcoat or Krylon flat "crystal clear" spraypaint with a thick coat it will kill the reflecting property but the plate looks the same to the naked eye. Not advocating illegal driving but some people need to put food on the table lol!
Sounds worth a try. Thanks.

The police or lawmen that post here are just upset because they make diddly squat. But then traffic cops are just glorified meter maids anyway.

Actually, that is incorrect, driving is not a "Privilege", regardless of what some may claim.-Driving is not reserved for people of privileged status, one only needs to be of age and pass a test and pay a fee to gain a drivers license. The criteria does not include or exclude to the point of meeting the definition of "Privilege".

Say it enough times and folks start to believe it's true.

License plate readers are a problem. They are money machines for the state of NJ. We were on our way home from the shore at about 10 pm at night when we happen on a road check with about 20 policeman lining the road in Atlantic County. They asked each car where were they coming from and whether they ad been drinking In the mean time our plates was being scanned. My daughters car was pulled from the line. My daughter had recently (1 Month before) paid for tickets and fines restored to have her license restored. Well she was pulled out of the line. NJ MVC showed her license was still suspended. So she was ticket for driving on a suspended license. They refused to look at the receipts she had in her glove compartment. The MVC computer was never updated. This is not the first time this happen to her. She has to pay the state a Surcharge for the next 3 years.

Here's a much easier, legal and lo-tech method. Never wash your license plates. They belong to the state, and you have no authorization from the state to clean or in any other way maintain or modify them. I haven't washed mine in two and a half years. It is completely unreadable and covered in a thick rime of dirt and motor oil. No one has ever stopped me for it. Also, take off your front plates. Mine was lost years ago.

On the Jay Leno show 2 years ago He showed samples of Red Light
Camera - stoppers , the Red Light Photo Blocker Spray worked the
best . and he showed it on TV !.. So just type it on your computer, like
he did and it'll come up and then you Order It , its that simple, pimple.
It is so reflective it blinds the camera !
- maybe its on u-tube also, we'll have to look ..........FTP
