Medical staff also, you are contracted as
to care for wards of the state. Its also a liability issue which is why they only want staff that work for the state to care for them.If a referral happens its by a state Dr. to an outside agency.Talk to somebody knowledgable don't take my word for it.

It’s costing a little more, but Oneida County earlier this year began using a private provider for medical services at its jail.

But county and jail officials say they are getting more for their money from Correctional Medical Care Inc.

In the $2,175,855 deal, the county will be spending $73,986 more than it would have using its own staff to provide care.

“The initial cost variance will be overshadowed in terms of the long-term savings,” county Executive Anthony Picente said,“and even short-term savings as we go forward.”

The company started at the jail in January

It will happen

“It seems to be the trend because it solves a lot of problems,” he said.

Fourteen jails statewide use outside medical providers, and 11 of those use Correctional Medical Care, according to the company. There are 74 county-operated jails in the state, including New York City, state Commission on Corrections statistics show.

For Oneida County, staffing was a top concern, county Corrections Division Chief Gabrielle Liddy said.

With Correctional Medical Care, the jail now has round-the-clock medical care, she said.
