Fist of I would like to send my condolesence to the families of the victims. But come on how come when some one dies they have to have fund raisers? They want everyone to feel bad for them so people will donAte money. I'm sorry but this is a recession people can't afford to barely support their own famies let alone someone else's. I can understand if they actually need something like food and other necessities to live but money? For what?!?

I'm sure these men had loved ones that counted on them for financial support. We don't know all the facts so let's not jump to conclusions

Sorry to burst your bubble but neither of those agencies pay funeral costs or loss of income for dependents. if you have a problem with it, it is very simple don't contribute!

yes they do I use to work in the insurance field and yes they do. If someone lives in a shelter with no family or money who do you think pays for the funeral?

I have to agree with the original poster. It's a shame these people had to lose their lives, but it's not fair to ask other people to fund funerals for the victims either. If my fiancé died plowing snow for the town nobody would plan a benefit to help me out.

each and every one of us should be making payments and arrangements for our funerals and gravesites. i know its not what we want to talk and think about but its a fact its gonna happen hopefully later than sooner but dont burden our kids and families with the expense and whole process of going trough the funeral and then the paying on top of it.let your kids no matter how old not have the financial burden of paying for your funeral. i know for myself im contacting a funeral home and see what it is for myself to do to make arrangements. i think this maybe a gift for myself and my kids to take of of this .life and this world is crazy and we never know from day to day

It was not any of the victims family that is throwing the benefit. Its someone who simply cares..so before maybe you trashy scums should think before you write stupid shit. Im sure your on welfare and cant afford to lend a buck but most people are more then willing too because 'money hungry' isnt the first thing that pops in our head. Wish i knew your names, if i did and i heard your names on the news i would not give a dollar and i would hope your baried in a wooden box you piece of garbage!!

People who can afford to help these people out...should. Those of you who cannot, have the option not to donate. I only know that if you go out any night of the week, people all over are in restaurants eating. You sound very young. You sound like you have never faced death in your family. You have no empathy. When you are older, you will understand.

I would t want your money because it was probably in the crack of your azz while you were sliding down a pole. I rather be chopped up and eaten by Jeffrey Dahmer than to receive a penny from you. Welfare ok?!? Do you see me holding a fundraiser because my dog got shot and I can't afford to cremate him? No it's not anyone else's problem that they can't afford to bury their loves ones. Maybe tey should of been working instead of getting a haircut and getting their tractor washed.

I completely agree that any talk of a benefit or fund raiser already is just plain tasteless. And in most cases they are held to help pay medical expenses from a long expensive illness or recovery, which ever the case. But in a situation like this one, I'd imagine it's not for bills or living expenses. I mean one victim was a CO. One could survive well on that pension. So maybe in this situation it's more of a memorial kind of event and what you're giving money to is to help cover the cost of the event. I know if I was suddenly left widowed like this I'd want people to celebrate and remember my husband and his life, but I wouldn't want to have to worry about funding it either. And if the amount of funds surpasses the cost of benefit, it should be donated. Maybe to the Trooper's K-9 Unit or something in relation this tragedy. I wouldn't even be surprised if that's what this benefit is for, to maybe raise funds and awareness of law enforcement and the necessity of the K-9 unit. Maybe the family wants to do something positive in their loved ones name and wants to keep focused on something to help make it through such a trying time. It's unexpected and devastating I bet to lose someone like this. A friend of mine lost her husband to a drunk driver a year ago. She helped raise money for drunk driving awareness. It was therapeutic for her and helped a good cause. I'd imagine it's for like reasons here too.

NYS has agencies and money to help victims with such costs. If you're a victim of a crime it covers medical expenses caused from the crime, and helps families with burial costs as a result from the crime. The families shouldn't be paying for it to begin with. People lose loved ones unexpectadly all the time, whether it be a heart attack, car wreck, or a hunting accident, and most of them seem to manage. Don't get me wrong, if one of the victims left behind a big family and they're in dire straits, I'd gladly help or donate what I could. But most benefits that are held with the intention of raising money for the family is most often a result of thousands of dollars owed on hospital expenses from an illness or to help raise money to pay for a needed medical procedure. It's wonderful idea though to help families with living expenses after a tragic loss like this. After seeing what my friend went through last year losing her husband to a drunk driver I can say that no one should have to suffer in such a way. But she had friends and family to help her and we all did, and will so long as she needs. A benefit in a wonderful idea and all, and whatever help is needed should be given without question. But help like this should be given to those who need it, regardless of how their loved one was lost. Not because their loss of how their loved one was lost.

The families didn't ask forvmoney. Someone else is putting on the benefit for them. If you don't like it don't attend.

Sad but true. With people like that representing the families whod want to give them anything? They sound real thankful LOL!
