As a long time hockey fan and supporter I am truly amazed by the Comets and there organization, First ticket prices, great seats will cost you 19 per game, ok seats about 15? Seems very unsustainable considering the average local in these parts can probably only attend 2 maybe three games a month at these price points, so why so high? Next is support, toss in a first losing season, and then another and interest in this team will wane considerably, UC has been so successful because tickets are affordable and the product on the ice is good,so people come on a nightly basis. I have my doubts about the comets being here in 3 years, Mr Esche, you are a moron,go join Mark i'm ''retired'' Mowers, and retire as well...Hockey for the people,an individuals take....

its a free world, esche can do what he wants, its his and his investors money. its a high level of hockey and if your under about 35 yrs of age, you really don't know how good the ahl is. and like chicken man says, how many uc students would go to a game if the tickets weren't free???? i'm sure the comets would fill the building every night if tickets were free. your comparing two completely different products targeting two different groups of people. there is nothing to compare. utica college gives away tickets and lets the rest in for like 6 bucks, and thats fine. the college pays all the expenses. comets target a upscale crowd and people that prefer pro style of hockey, nothing wrong with that either. they can co-exist and complement each other.

You are so sadly mistaken on so many levels. UC tix were not free this past season; it is silly to characterize a hopeful comets crowd as "upscale"; it is not esche's money. It is taxpayer money that enticed the AHL to choose Utica. Refute my assertions.

what are you talking about, everyone knows uc students get in for nothing and that half the crowd at the games ive been to. the rest of the tickets are like 6 bucks. basically they get college kids and welfare recipients looking for cheap entertainment. there are people that love the ahl hockey and are willing to do whatever they need to in order to afford those tickets. weather its get a part time job, or cut back on dinners out, or whatever. esches group is responsible for paying vancouver for the players that are here. esche and his group has to recover that money in ticket sales, advertising and merchandise sales. the tax payers are not responsible for those costs. and obviously if tickets are 12-18 bucks a game they are not targeting the uc fan base.idk why most topix users think everyone lives in poverty like they do, get off your lazy azz and work. you have the same 24 hrs a day everyone else does.. its not my fault your too lazy to work for something.

Ignorance is bliss in utica. The team will make money...as did the utica devils...it's just a matter of getting another affiliate after next season. The Canucks are a one year team. It will be up to the comets franchise to get another NHL affiation there. It will be a dog fight.

i'm not sadly mistaken, i'm actually very happy the comets are coming. and everyone knows uc gives away tickets to its students, and if tickets are too expensive for a college educated person like yourself, then they must be targeting someone with money and thats not you.and they certainly not targeting uc kids with no money, or the welfare population of utica. and the taxpayer money went into the aud which is way overdue for improvements. and those improvements will help the aud attract better entertainment and also can be used by your beloved uc team.

Why do people continue to pick one against the other? The both of them Comets & UC will benefit from sharing the same facilities and if both are successful that's all the better! This area is so negative to the improvements to the quality of life ......Why bury the Comets before they even step on the ice!! But if they do turn out successful i'm sure the same people will bash them anyway......Oh well enjoy the season folks!!

for some reason people are afraid that the comets will push uc to the side. but they are really two different products targeting two different groups of people. uc will continue to draw the college crowd and people on a budget. the comets will get the pro fans and people that have played the game and know what a high level the ahl offers.then there are others who are jealous case the comets are getting credit for the aud improvements and don't think the team will make it here. its really weird....

You're right, it is a free world. Where you are wrong is about the money. It has taken $7.25 million taxpayer dollars so far to get this scheme off the ground. If it were just investor mey on the line the I would have no problem with this. That's not the case though.
I hope everyone remembers Griffo, Picente and Brindisi on their respective election days and vote accordingly. When you make your decision think about the amount of taxpayer dollars, that they are entrusted to spend wisely, they used for AHL hockey and compare that to what victims of the recent flooding got.

part of it was used for ahl hockey, they needed locker rooms(don't know what happened to the old ones) a chiller up grade(was needed even if the comets did not come) and a zamboni as the ahl requires 2 of them. everything else(facade/suites/sound system/video boards/upgrade of food stands) will benefit any event at the aud. this building has been mis managed, underused, and just plain neglected. why weren't you on here last year when the aud replaced all of the lower seats?? what about all the money for lighting upgrades in the main arena??? they had two choices, upgrade the building and do something with it, or continue to misuse it and loose money doing it.the comets allow the aud to be used for 40 extra nights a year instead of sitting there empty. bottom line is with out the comets coming, theres no way utica gets these upgrades, that money woulda gone to syracuse or binghamton, or albanys rink. the whole world cant stop because herkimer got flooded, thats what fema is for.

The whole Aud crap was a Kansas City Shuffle to distract them from the whole Andrew Cuomo OIN casino sellout and enrichment for the Albany crew.
Give the people a sniff of glitter and fck them raw with blasting slag in the ass while they're distracted. They even disbursed the THAT little "Cuomo piece" (Vlasto's name for it) to most of the usual NY liberal leechfield.

You're ok but you have a real narrow view of the larger picture. You say the state welfare games hockey money would have gone somewhere but how about if these pandering corrupt do nothing pol scumbags just shut the fuck up with "all they do" and didn't raise that money by Taxed Earth policy you'd have jobs and legitimate profits to pay for the curtain wall shit in the first place moron. The whole state politician welfare check vaudville show is your biggest industry and capital flux. Congratulations.

What gives with the UC/ Canada cuntventing about peanut money? It's not like any kind of debt or scandal as big as Wiener or having a corrupt sex pervert douche like Eliot Spitzer influencing NY again scale so someone is stabbing backs again and you distracted goons are oblivious to it. Maybe someone should tell Griffo Picente or Brindisi to make a few calls to Albany and have King Andrew Decree that Canada and the fucking AHL had better SHUT THE FUCK UP an Let the UC people play the game too. This smells just like the same door-slamming the Albany Crew and "bosses" are always pulling in NY.

MVHockey - a quick look at the AHL.com website shows that ticket prices for single games for ALL AHL teams runs mostly in the $20.00-$30.00 range for single game prices. The Comet single game prices will be $13.50-$20.00. Most of the expensive seats are already purchased by season ticket holders so what is left are the $13.50-$15.00 tickets which is very reasonable. Binghmanton's prices are $18.00 and $19.00 and Syracuse is $19.00 -$22.00 so give me a break.

UC is a great value of course to fill people's needs. The AHL is obviously a much more talented level of hockey. I have season tickets for both teams and will enjoy going to cheer on each team.

As for the Aud upgrades I 100% agree they are needed and necessary. How many more years can that outdated facility have survived ? Quality of life not only is taking care of those who need assistance as we always do with great compassion in this are but it also means having venues and attractions to go to for those of us who already pay for everything else.

Selling out the Aud for each Comet game would mean 150,000 people showing up. Since they have sold over 1500 season tickets to date 57,000 of the 150,000 are already accounted for so within just a two county area we have nearly 300,000 people so if 1 in 3 just went to 1 game per year that would take care of every game.

People who bitch and moan about everything locally should just move or keep quiet. There is plenty to do locally and we are in range of many major metro areas if you need a taste of that for a weekend. You drive to work with no delays, you eat like pigs because we have great food and housing is dirt cheap.

Individuals such as Robert Esche should be commended for their vision and dreams and trying to make our area a much better place for all of us. These type of people make things happen and spur interest in the community while others hide behind computer screens and make tasteless comments about the area.

Best of luck to both UC and the Comets this year.
