The reason why I'm asking is I had a cousin that was from Utica. I remember him always talking about the italian neighborhood he grew up in. I was just curious if any of it was still left????

"Little Cuba"? I thought Cubans were prohibited from leaving Cuba. I don't think there's Cubans here. Dominicans yes.

Cornhill which is part of east utica was originally settled by Italians. Cornhill is not the same as it once was and it's not safe. Utica in general has great authentic food, including Italian food.

Cornhill was not originally settled by Italians. Cornhill was originally farmland settled by the Welsh and Irish. There were no Italians in East Utica until the upper class Welsh and Irish moved to New Hartford and Deerfield. Many of the Italians changed their names to be more English sounding so they could get jobs. The Italians were not really successful until Rufie Elefante took over the Democrat party, at which time people of European heritage were out in the cold. If Rufie hadn't taken over, there would be no Italian police or firemen today.

If Rufie hadn't taken over, there would be no Italian police or firemen today. The person was asking what Italian neighborhoods existed in Utica. Not who settled what first. Utica has been and always will be a city of immigrants. It's not like, for example, eastern Kentucky where the original settling families have basically stayed for generations. There's always some new immigrant influx. Why? I really have no idea. It's like these people throw a dart on a map and it lands on Utica.

Italians are in about the same category as the koons. Even the bosnians are better people (except the ones that smell)

Joey's restaurant on the corner of Mohawk and Lansing St. I would say that little Italy otherwise is gone from Utica.

curious: are you interested in Italian things in Utica? Like restaurants and things? Or something else? There's no Italian neighboorhood, per se, but parts of Utica still have Italians living there. There are a lot of bakeries that sell good bread. There are a few pastry shops; people are divided on their value. There are a ton of restaurants, and again, a lot of opinions. If you are interested, you might try looking online at Yelp.
