Linda Romano and a small, secret group for library trustees have decided to schedule a SECOND re-chartering vote within the next 30 days. Linda Romano, who has yet to even publicly acknowledge the defeat of the re-chartering vote, believes that by slightly reducing the budget and unveiling it at the September 7th Library Board of Trustees meeting that she can convince 800 people who voted "no" to switch their votes to "yes".

Linda Romano is very bitter about the vote and has vowed to keep New Hartford residents voting again and again until we vote her way.

We love our library, but it will not move forward until we have a new Library Board of Trustees. For the good of the library and for the good of Linda Romano’s state of mind, she needs to move on and resign now.

Is such a decision to hold another vote legal given that a board approved meeting to discuss this was never authorized?

The bigger issue that residents should be concerned about beyond the scope of rechartering is that of certain board members who have a pre-determined and often self-serving agenda that is not being disclosed to the general public. This in of itself is sufficient grounds to seek the immediate removal of those board members who continue to operate in such a rogue capacity before any further discussion/vote over rechartering takes place.

It's funny how you are so bent on her resigning. Is it what's best for the town ? Or is it simPly the whims of the power Hungary craving more ? Who are you to come on here anonymously as you do and demand this and That.

Time will tell.

The question people should be asking is that even if a lower budget was proposed, are these the Trustees that you want having access to an open check book and the ability to create a bottomless money pit funded by your school taxes? Vote of zero confidence here!

And the saga continues. This is a public library not a billion dollar corporation. The clowns on the Board of Trustees are just stroking their ego's with all this nonsense.

How about some normal people on the board. Ones who are used to holding a budget, listening to what others say, and have experience spending their own money instead of wasting others.

Don't let them get into your pockets like they do in the Whitesboro School District. Most do not even use the Dunham Library as it is in the Village of Whitesboro yet everyone from Marcy, Deerfield and Schuyer have taxes raised yearly to support the library. If voted down they pout.

The employees there get State benefits because they are part of the school district.

Keep the library private and have those who use it pay for it

Well, when you consider that one trustee in particular has a parent who donated their house to a college, pays no taxes on this specific property, maintains life use of the home and even has a plaque honoring him in the library, you can see where all of this is going. I'm all about making these kinds of strategic moves but, where I take exception is when it comes with a price tag to the general public. Clearly, that's what's happening here. There's an inherent conflict of interest with a board member attempting to preserve a family legacy. My advice is simply do it with your own money. You wanted it, now pay for it yourself!

The Sammon family donated a truckload of $$$ to the libary also. They are very happy and dont seem to cause any trouble.

I guess Linda Romano figures she's entitled to do whatever she wants with the library then??

It turns our NH library does not belong to us but to a private group of select trustees. So, the re-chartering vote, if it had gone through, would have created from a private entity an independent quasi-government agency with the power to tax (heavily). Does that sound right to anyone?

From what I gather, trustees are simply rubber stamping things with a pre-determined agenda. Who are the puppet masters here behind the scenes and what are their true motives aside from expecting the tax payers to foot the bill? Is there a larger benefit being derived from someplace? Is the library a bargaining chip or a leveraging tool for something else? Or, are these complacent library trustees simply passionate in their cause to the point of operating in a clandestine manner? You make the call.
