When the hell is the City ever going to do something about the Field at the Ed Hinko Baseball League? I have gone to City Hall numerous times to speak to Dave Short, but he is never there & doesn't return phone calls.
It's a City owned field & they need to do something before a kid gets hurt seriously & they get sued. It's ridiculous!

What needs to be done at Ed Hinko Field?

Just so you know The Ed Hinko Independent Baseball League is required to have Insurance on all players that play in there league.

How much do the Little League teams pay the city for ground maintenance and lighting?

Donated...NOTHING. He pockets all the money. Look at the uniforms. Ask coaches if he gives them decent helmets. Ask them about equipment. All junk.

So it is ok for a young kid to tear up a knee because there is insurance? that should make the parents feel good.

Mel gives a LOT to that program! Unless you are there to see what he does, I advise you to hold all of the insults! It's still a city owned field & the city needs to step up & do something to the field.

Helmets are the responsibility of the players. That was the decision handed down by the Oneida County Health Board. I for one wouldn't want to wear a sweaty helmet worn by a bunch of kids, would you?

Fences would be nice, but not even Murnane has them. Yes, the kids need to pay attention, but that's far from the reason for not having them.

The City owns the field & is responsible for the upkeep & maintenance the same way the county takes care of Murnane Field. Murnane is a county owned field.

Mel & some FEW volunteers take care of Hinko Field. The least the City could do is at least get dirt to take care of the infield. That is who you should be barking at, not Mel.

As a matter of fact, Mel bought dirt a couple of years ago & it was expensive. I helped with trying to work on the infield, but it was like a drop of water in the ocean.

Hinko is a beautiful field & a real asset to this area & the city needs to invest in it! If there was a better field of play, then maybe more kids would be playing.

Notre Dame's JV & Modified baseball teams use that field, why isn't there anything from the city invested since there is a school using it too?

Instead of the Mel bashing, why can't we get together to go to the city as adults & give some time to better the park ourselves?

When I see you standing next to me working there, then & only then can you bitch about it! I started this thread as a way to connect to improve things, not argue like 4 year old's on this thread or others!

Thank you.
