Speaking on behalf of all my fellow Latino's, its time this country recognized Cinco de Mayo as a national holiday and give us the respect that we deserve. Blacks have Martin Luther King day, Kwaanza and Black History month and all they do is drain the welfare and prison systems. We Latinos are hard working,self-sufficient and are a positive influence in the community. We deserve recognition and appreciation. Very soon, over half of US residents will be Latino, so its time we were showed some respect. Give us our holiday!!!! Now!! Gracias.

It is a national holiday--for Mexico, as it should be.

Then celebrate it. Doesn't mean it needs to be an American national holiday. It has to do with Mexican pride. It is in fact a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, it's the Mexican-Americans that made it a big deal. So go party, like the Irish do on St. Patrick's Day. Like St. Patrick's Day it doesn't need to be a national holiday to be celebrated.
