Went there for lunch today. Haven't been in 20yrs. Always had good pizza. Got a small sausage pie. The sauce was nasty. It was dark like BBQ sauce. Tasted burnt or something.Service was good just the pizza sucked. Maybe its just me. Just saying.

This place is nothing like it was years ago. Used to be one of the best pizzas in Utica, if not the best. Now it is garbage. Tastes worst than Pizza Hut. Don't know what happened, but it is worst than frozen pizza now.

I moved here from the Rochester area and have had a very hard time finding really good pizza around here. I like most pizza but around here there is no pizza I love! Why can't utica make awesome pizza? Pontillo's Pizza RULES!!!

Must have had a bad batch. Go there all the time and never had an issue. One writer suggested the one in Clinton that went out of business. That one and Washington Mills SUCKED! Kids didnt care how they made them, cheated you on sauce and cheese to the edges. Those both deserve to be out of business. O'scugnizzo's is supposed to be sloppy! I have coworkers who come in from outside the area to have a pie in Utica. If you don't like it, don't go back. Simple.

That's funny cause the one near academic is where all the sauce and shells are made

The one over by ACS makes their pizza's in a very sloppy way, and the sauce does not taste the same compared to the one in Washington Mills. Not only that, but whenever I have gotten a slice from the one by ACS, it looks and tastes 3 days old. I don't care if they have the same sauce, or shells, the people who run the one in Washington Mills are better at what they do. Simple as that.

Pizza in Utica, like most Utica "Italian" food, sucks. The idiot natives think its wonderful because they have never tasted food from anywhere else.
its all garbage

Dudes, if you are used to eating chitt, then all chitt will taste GOOD to you.

That's a metaphor for all things Utica, and for the Utica-Rome MSA.

Utica & Rome pizza really blows, but you won't know that it does until you try something better, SOMEWHERE ELSE.

If you think Pontillo's rules, then you obviously didnt get around in Rochester. Or are an inept food critic.

You know why you can have wildly differing experiences with pizza from the same joint? Because of oven temperature.

All other things being equal, including the use of quality ingredients, a pizza that's baked in an oven that hasn't come up to temperature tastes awful.

Most joints in the area use gas-fired drop in ovens that *only* get up to the proper temps a fraction of the time. Get a pie during the busiest part of the day and odds are it's undercooked, since constantly moving pies in and out prevents the oven from hitting the right temperature.

You'll get the best pies if you order right after peak time, since that gives what little thermal mass the drop-in ovens have a chance to properly stabilize the temperature at the set point. The absolute best time to order pizza is on a cold winter day, when the cooks don't mind cranking up the oven to max and the humidity is low, right after the lunch or dinner rush.

Never had a problem with the pizza from Bleeker O'scugnizzo's. The chicken riggies are awful though.

Actually, one of the few good things about Utica is the significant number of small, local pizza places that provide some of the best pizzas in the country. Have you ever tried getting a good pizza in Atlanta? It's not going to happen. Quit complaining.
