Why can't I buy online or elsewhere my uniforms for school. I just was given our letter and see its stated that I MUST go to Josies in New Hartford for their outfits. Last I knew, schools cannot force you to purchase supplies from stores. If I can find those same items elsewhere then I will look around to make sure I am not being charged too much for them. Might as well say $300 bucks for uniforms when all said and done and that's local.

Just go buy somewhere else if it's the same thing. Doubt the teachers are gonna check your receipts. Somebody is related to Josie or they are getting a kickback.

Buy from Josies. MVCC likes their health students to look professional. No one gets a kick back, and Josies gives MV students a cheaper price. And yes, the teachers will notice.

I wouldnt be so sure about MVCC students getting a cheaper price anywhere the school recommends. Its been a great many years now but I remember MVCCs book store used to rip students off big time if you had to buy something from them.

You can look professional buying the same thing anywhere..has nothing do do with looking professional if you can buy the same garments elsewhere other than Josies... Its a law now that students are not forced to buy from certain places like books and such and this applies to clothing. And if the students want, they can make a big issue about this if they can get the same exact items elsewhere online or local especially if they are paying out of pocket for it.. Josies is not the only place in the country selling that type of item. Same brand can be purchased anywhere else it is being sold.

What are the prices then if they give a cheaper price..? I am sure the student who know can post it here then and see where else it can be purchased.

I don't see the connection between Josie's and the MV Bookstore. Yeah the bookstore is more than pricey, but it's unfair to say or even infer that Josie's and the MV Bookstore are one and the same.

Don't matter. If I can find the exact same goods anywhere else I am buying it. Nobody tells me I have to shop for goods unless they are the only suppliers around carrying the stuff. If I find their prices are good when comparing then fine but it seems a lot for what is required. I will find out the brands and loom around first.

Ha wait until they tell you that you have to buy your graduation clothes from Josie's too. and they want you to get fitted by Josie's and pay for the clothes months before you graduate. I know a lot of people who didn't end up passing, never graduated and got stuck with the graduation (excuse me "pinning") outfit that they never wore. And the uniform that they make you buy for clinical, if you buy it somewhere else for cheaper won't have their MVCC patch sewn onto it so it won't be considered "an appropriate uniform". And your instructors will certainly check, have no doubt about that. I agree its BS. But if you get financial aid then you can get a voucher for Josie's and at least you won't have to pay for it out of pocket. Good luck, hope it works out for you!

Wow. A nursing student who says,"Who cares what they say." Can't wait to have you taking care of real patients. It DOES matter that you can follow orders to the letter. That's the whole purpose of learning discipline in nursing school. Details are important. Dont start getting a chip on your shoulder this early in your career. Your license could hang on the next "who cares".

I think Ron may have point there. I'm pretty sure that when you signed the acknowledgement that you agree to all of the terms and conditions of the program laid out in your nursing handbook, one of the things that you agree to is wearing the required uniform which is only supplied by Josie's. So you may not have leg to stand on there. And like I said if you buy it somewhere else then it won't have the official MVCC student nurse badge on the sleeve so it won't qualify as an official MVCC uniform. And your instructors are really strict about the uniform so I would make sure that you check with them before you show up for clinical in the wrong uniform because they will absolutely send you home.

Then I would suggest that you get it without the patch and sew it on When you need. Why can't they give you the patch from the school like others prob do. We can get the outfit and place patch on ourselves. And why would anyone pay ahead if they have not graduated? Pay then with a creditcard and dispute it if you fail. Why be stuck with the uniform if you don't graduate? Seems josies has some sort of school nonsense going on there.

don't like the terms MVCC sets for its students in the program, choose another school. You're free to go to a different school. Otherwise, shut up and accept the terms MVCC has set.

Why would you pay with a credit card and then dispute it? Sooo the credit card company should eat the cost if you flunk out of school? Its that kind of irresponsible behavior that contributes to our crappy economy in this country. But I digress - I'm just trying to be realistic with you. Could the school hand out patches and let you sew them on yourselves? Probobly, but why would they. Then they would have to go through the hassle of making sure that everyone bought the same uniform, and evreyone sewed the patch on the right way, and everyone bought the appropriate size, so that its not too tight, too short, too big etc? Its a lot easier for the school to say - this is what you have to wear, this is where you have to buy it, they will make sure it fits you. You're kind of making a mountain out of a molehill here. Are you all upset because you have to buy it from Josie's? You have to buy your equipment bag from the bookstore at MV. You won't use a lot of the stuff that comes in it. But you have to buy it to fullfill the requirements for the program. Bottom line is really nursing school is tough, you have bigger things to be worried about. Just do what you have to do to get through it. Don't sweat the small stuff you know?

Actually my comment neither inferred nor stated in any way that the MV Book Store and this place Josie's are one and the same. I simply stated that (I wouldn't be so sure) that a person would be getting a cheaper price just because MVCC recommended a place. The book store was simply an example of a place that MVCC used to recommend to students and the prices were not cheaper.

it is the same at other nursing schools - they require a specific uniform from a chosen shop

if you do not graduate then why would one pay ahead and not know if they will make it or not. Payment should be done upon graduation.

The assumption is that you PLAN to graduate. Otherwise, why bother? At any school, you buy your books and equipment as you go. You can't use those and pay for them only after you graduate. It is the way it is. Suck it up and do things the way they want you to do them. Insubordination is not generally well tolerated in nursing school.
