We cannot afford any increase.Stop blaming others. You are in your second year and have a deficit this year even with a 9.9 tax increase.
---cut expenses
Here are some ideas--
Give up the lease on your new car.
No new purchases.
No COLA increases for you or the council people rather take a 5 per cent pay cut.
Get rid of all your retirees who are drawing state pensions.
Reduce Corp Counsel office by 2 attorneys.
Review all public safety overtime.
No overtime for all non public safety.
No travel for anyone.
Cut all dept budgets by 10- per cent.
Reduce Codes by 2 people.
Postpone all projects in the engineering dept.
No new hirees in police or fire.
Collect all taxes due to the city on time--Hotel Utica etc.
Review revenue in all depts.
No summer programs.
Eliminate your asst who no one ever reads about.
Review costs of debt.
No raises for any union agreement.
This is a start and I have no connection with the city.Maybe some of your council people who like headlines can offer some cuts.

I'll bet my life that this years tax increase will be lager than last years. palmieri already said he would not touch neither public safety contracts nor their benefits and perks which is your "MAIN" problem in this city especially after Roefaro gave away the house to them in just four years. Public safety jobs are the most lucrative in the State in Utica, where over 100 UPD&UFD are making over $75,000 plus benefits and perks. Plus your police chief is making over $130,000 and fire chief $102,000 plus benefits and perks. There is no wondering why Utica is "BROKE", we "KNOW" why Utica is broke and at a point of no return.

The taxpayes in Utica will go along with whatever is done by the politicians. I used to love Utica while I lived there for over 20 years, it breaks my heart to see what it has become. I moved to New Hartford eight years ago, I hope it is not too late for the last decent taxpayers in Utica to get away from that corrupt cesspool.

I agree 1000%. The poor Uticas taxpayers have to pay all of what Roefaro did to hurt the city bond rating and it's future. The council and Roefaro both knew the cliff they were driving over and nothing was done to stop the train wreck of spending it ALL. Now it's the taxpayers on the bottom with the rocks tied around there necks who must suffer the consequences of the corrupt Roefaro administration. Don't worry comptroller Mike Cerminaro knows how to fix it. All that money gone and nothing to show for it but the deficit and debt with no future or should I say more future of the same ole next year, next year, next year..........

They did last year - nothing is stopping them from doing it again.

NONE of them have the brains to make necessary budget cuts to AVOID and tax increases. All they can come up with is to eiliminate employees - which should be the LAST thing to do.

I applaud "Senior's" suggestions as they all are possible and could be done. Afterall, I doubt very much if UPD and UFD will go on strike if their wages are frozen and their share of their health insurance calls for a bigger premium to be paid by THEM! This is what Corporate America has done with their employees and even the Seniors have had their Pension checks lower because their costs for health insurance has risen.

Get some balls Mayor and start fighting for the taxpapers instead of your Italian friends.

Yea, and what are they going to do this year, raise your taxes again. They have no nor want to hear any solutions, especially the beefed up over brassed, over paid, over benefitted and perked up UPD.

I hope that the heads of the departments don't submit a propasal with A LOT of wiggle room like some people think they do every year. BUt rather realize that they really need to cut bare bones. Only keave a little breathing room. I would cut every city employee salary by 5 to 9 percent. That is enough to make a difference and MUCH BETTER than laying off people.

Exactly but I heard that UPD&UFD have asked for millions of dollars more besides there raises and not paying anything for health care. Did you know that Brooks despite the dire straights taxpayers face says it is the law that the highest paid fireman are the ones who have to get the overtime?
