You need to grow up young lady and start having adult thoughts...sorry to be so blunt.

Yes you are blunt, and sorry.
I assume you must be an investigator from the thought police? What exactly are adult thoughts? What gives you the right to tell this young lady how to think? God help us if you have any contact with children.

Grow up? Adult thought? How's this one, if it was any other job besides superintendent or working for the school system, KD would have been fired for failure to follow safety procedure of fellow workers. If she worked under me I would have fired her for it. How would you know how grown up I am and how adult my thoughts are? And Real voice of reason thank you.

I think you need to look at the bigger picture. If the roads were slick why wouldn't the parents have them take the bus? You blame the school district. I think you need to start the blame at home.

In Holland Patent, once you stop riding the bus it takes an act of god to get back on in it. The drivers will not stop for you if you stopped riding the bus. This isn't about one thing. It's about multiple. I have been speaking out against KD since 2004 when she was hired. I was a junior in Holland Patent.

funny thing is, nobody else from the HP school district were injured or killed in a car accident that day. Seems the roads weren't all that bad after all and the Super made the right decision not to cancel/delay school. Seems safety procedure was followed.

Were you driving in Oneida county on 2/12/13? I drove to Utica from Rome. It took me an hour to make that drive which usually takes 15-20 minutes. The roads were slick and should not have been driven on. That day there were multiple accidents. How many buses went off the road? How many vehicles went off the road? Try again. You really need to know all the facts before you start about one incident out of many.

As a matter of fact, yes I was. Went from Herkimer to Utica, then to Rome. Not a single car off any road I was on.

My trip on the Utica Rome Expressway took me about 15 minutes from where I was in Utica to where I was going in Rome. Other than the wind, roads were fine.

The rural roads of Holland Patent are dangerous during the type of weather we experienced that day. The super should have closed the school. Every district in this area should have at least five snow days built into their schedules. If they don't they should add some. And if you need to close more days.....do it for the safety of our children.

Ignorance abounds on this issue. You seem to be the leader. There was an accident that day, by a teen aged driver......ONE ACCIDENT. If you can't handle winter weather you should take your ideas and move to warmer climates.

It's a shame what happened, but I agree, it was the only accident.
Do you remember a few years back, when HP had their graduation? There was a fatal accident involving kids driving to their graduation, and the sun was so bright, they didn't see the stop sign. At least one died in that accident, not sure if there was only one. That, too, was tragic, but that doesn't mean they should have cancelled graduation because the sun was too bright.
I am glad they didn't have school this week, because two days ago, the roads, even route 12, were really bad, much worse than they were then.

As I recall, there were multiple accidents involving more than a dozen vehicles on Route 49 (Utica Rome Expressway)at the proximate time of the fatal on Route 365 in Floyd (three to four miles away) Perhaps "rossi dodo" traveled that highway at a different time or on a different day.

Wow your thought process is screwed up. First you think it's funny, all it takes is one tragedy to affect people. Would you have felt better if there was more accidents or, God forbid, more deaths to make you say school should have been at least delayed. She's a screw up, and needs to be replaced. One accident or death is one too many. School should have been delayed, would have saved a life and the school would still have been paid for the day.

Easy there dodo. Weather in HP was a LOT different that day than it was in Herkimer, or Utica. Hell , even KD acknowledges weather is local! dodo!

If you feel the weather is too bad, then don't send your kids to school. There have been mornings that I made my kids stay home, and they ride the bus. Just because the schools don't close, doesn't mean you have to send them if it is against your better judgement.

No, I respectfully disagree. On the 12th the roads were worse where the accident occurred. At least in part, this is because the DOT was short on manpower and equipment and the county had to cover additional roads normally covered by the state. Combined with the fact that at the time the county was busy cleaning up Rt 12, Rt 365 wasnt getting plowed, at the same time the lake effect band had shifted south to Floyd-HP.

There were circumstances beyond KD's control that day that made roads hazardous, no question. What she did have control over, and failed to exercise it, was delaying or canceling after a thoughtful and thorough review of conditions at hand.

I travel 365 from up north, then take the thruway from Oneida to Syracuse, the roads weren't great, but they weren't near as bad as I have seen them.
Tuesday of this week, the roads up here were horrible. No school, thankfully, but I would have told them to stay home if they did have it.

What accident are you talking about with graduation? I have never heard of it. I have heard of ones after graduation during parties but not one before graduation.

It was a few years ago. They were on their way to their graduation, didn't stop at the stop sign, due to the sun. It was said that the father of the driver happened to be nearby, and the son died in his arms. I don't remember how many years ago, maybe four?
