Bonnamassa Guitars sells the brands Big Apple can no longer get. Gibson, Martin, PRS, Fender Custom, Godin, Takmine, Alvarez, Taylor... Big Apple can not compete with high end guitar sales. However, they are good at selling cheap crap! They will stay in business because of that. And they sell a ton of drums, equipment, and keyboards. And car audio and starters. They aren't making ANY money off of guitars. Beginners will go there to buy a Yamaha acoustic or Squire Strat - not seasoned players who will drop a couple grand on a custom shop guitar.

Two different businesses.

If you're looking for a truly professional dealer, try . Elderly Instruments really is the best you can get in a guitar dealer.

Big Apple is quite well-stocked with new Martin acoustics, several Taylors (usually); I do miss the Gibson acoustic line. BG, with its more 48th St. feel, is a worthwhile destination in its own right. Not at all compelled to compare the two. "Seasoned players" will visit both. Hope they both stick around for a good long time.

Have done business with Elderly as well, and agree they are an excellent online retailer. Always feel disadvantaged buying from afar, though - inasmuch as one can line up a dozen of the identical model instrument, and one (or more) will frequently stand out as superior to the others. Best, whenever possible, to "try before you buy." Two merchants in New Hartford allow us to do that with the inventory they maintain at no small expense. Nice for the locals.

The Big Apple Sleeper Cell will stay afloat due to financial backing from you know who. The building could be turned into a Taliban Clubhouse in virtually seconds.

What's with the idiots trying to create some sort of competition between Bonamassa Guitars & Big Apple? I wish them both well but, really, they're barely in the same line of work. I need cables, power amps, stomp-boxes, strings, road-cases, etc., etc., every day - but shop for new or vintage guitars more rarely (and, being picky, search globally for those). I like to do business locally whenever possible, and Big Apple has made it extremely easy to do that - always meeting or beating the prices of the online retailers, with the advantage of dealing with friendly locals.

Likewise, I'm thrilled to have Bonamassa Guitars around the corner - knowing, however, that - on the retail end - they're catering to a niche market. After all, how many guys in the Mohawk Valley will walk in & drop $2K on a guitar in an average week? Exceedingly tough line of work in a crowded global market, especially with the associated cost of maintaining a storefront. But, from a guitar-consumer's standpoint: The value of being able to browse & handle some world-class gear in your own backyard? Priceless!

As mentioned previously, I wish both businesses well.

Len has been piecing together Fender guitars for years, Strats and Teles. He'll swap out all sorts of parts, sand bodies, steal your pick ups and replace them with cheap ones. The guy is a scumbag. Enter at your own risk, but don't say you weren't warned.
