You try to justify your argument supporting the term "Redskin" by listing,"Indians", "Chiefs", "Warriors", "Cowboys", etc. None of these are derogatory terms. Do you know what that means? Redskin to an Indian is the same as the "N" word to a black person. Do you get it NOW???????!!! Did I read that one poster suggesting that the definition be changed in the dictionary? Really? If brains were gasoline, you wouldn't have enough to run a piss ant's motorcycle around the inside of a Cheerio. OMG!

why wouldn't they be considered derogatory? A Mexican could also be considered a Red Skin.

Now getting politically connected, the word Negro is termed black in Spanish so should that be barred? It's getting to be too much.

Since we have this punk in office, he craps on the whites but all of a sudden anyone who disagrees with him is racist, bull!

With your terms, you just demanded John Lennon's 'War Is Over!' to be banned since he expresses '...for yellow and red ones, lets stop all the fight...!"

And countryboys, farmboys and hillbillies, etc, take pride in being called and identifying as "Rednecks", despite the braindumbing mass media's negative portrayals and stereotypes of such quintessentially American of real American folks. I see a day when we have a pro football team from nearly ANY state in the union going by the Rednecks. Hey y'all, ladies do love country boys!

I use to think that Ray and his team were smart people, but this proves there egos are getting the best of them as it is dumber than dirt to even care about this issue, it is a football team with name that fans recognize and love. So what's next you dumb asses at the Oneida Nation, I suppose you won't like that fact that Indian Morotcycles are back. Grow up, get some thick skin, use your millions for the good of the people and not for this crap!!!

Gambling is evil corruption of the weak and he is taking advantage of the weak.....against Jesus principle so he is DOOMED!
You have to give it to the man for 20 years he's never paid taxes. New York plays hardball and offers Trump to build across the street . Then he negotiates to never put another casino around and he'll do what he failed to do that would put most people behind bars. 20 years of no taxes could've done a lot for this town and the surrounding areas. I don't know about this religious garbage... But what I do know...Maybe he should be throwing stones at glass houses.

Ray Halbritter is a woman beating lowlife. The Indian Nation is a tax on the upstate area.
Time for the Indians to think about their own problems instead of inventing new ones.

Well if you think Indian Culture is so fascinating and you've learned anything about them then you would know calling them red- skins is highly offensive to our Native Americans. As long as I can recall in my many years and what I was taught by my parents the term red-skin was and is a derogatory term. I am referring to the term red-skin and no other terms you come up with to heighten your argument.
I am very satisfied in knowing that in my comments here I am educating 99% of non Indians that the word red-skin is a negative term and that it is offensive to our Native Americans. I guess one is never to old to learn.
Sticks and stones may break my bones but names should never hurt me. You should be proud of the color of your skin and not ashamed of it.

Of course the title of this thread is a lie but it was surely meant to open a conversation albiet under a false scenario. today's OD asks some native americans what they think.

"Tommy Yazzie, superintendent of the Red Mesa school district on the Navajo Nation reservation... The high school football team in his district is THE RED MESA REDSKINS!"
“We just don’t think that (name) is an issue,” Yazzie said.“There are more important things..."

Yes Mr. Yazzie. "There ARE more important things". It's just that here in upstate NY there's a self proclaimed "Chief". Many in his tribe object to his antics and deny his authority but he's built a very successful gamblin' hall and has become intoxicated with his fortune. HE gives you culture a bad name and does more damage to your people than you could imagine.

I find the corespondent that posted this probably made this incident up out of whole cloth.

That said,

Many high schools that have predominately Native American enrollment use the name "Redskins" and have no intentions of changing their names.

I find the whole thing about the names of sports teams being offensive is just something more to stir up the overly emotional lefties that are suckers for this kind of nonsense.

I would suppose that Notre Dame should change their name because it might offend those of Irish descent. But then again since those of Irish background are "whiteskins" it doesn't fall into the left's aggrieved people's groups. I mean c'mon how cruel to accuse all Irish of being violent! Perhaps their name should be changed to the "Eugene O'Neils" so the Irish folks don't get violent and fight in the streets.

Indianapolis most definitely needs to change it's name because now some aggrieved group says that the Cleveland "Indians" is offensive so Indianapolis should be forced to change it's name too!

And let's not forget Oklahoma. It must surely have to change its name both the state and the city!

After all when translated from the Choctaw language it means "Land of the Red skinned people".

Or perhaps all those lefty white folks and Ray Halbritter should just mind their own business and clam up.
