Smokin' Joe Bonamassa !!
He got the nickname Smokin' not due to his red hot guitar playing, but due to a dominating fastball that was too smokin' for batters to hit.
But he pursued a career in music where he'd make more money and greater fame.

If one summer's performance can get you on the "utica area all-time baseball team", then it would have to be UP 229's Ed Morreale in the summer of 1988. Hit nearly .500 and was nearly error free at SS with exceptional range for a bigger kid. Robbie S was the star of the team but Eddie was UNBELIEVABLE that summer. He had always been good with the glove from LL on up but he really swung the bat that summer too. The Smith Post radio announcer called him "the Poison" and probably still remembers him.
