in today's technology fueled society, marriages have had to sustain pressures and temptations like never before. How many of you either been a victim or know seomeone whose been a victim as a result of their significant other having an affair as a results of a social networking site. Facebook, myspace, chat rooms have played a central role in the infidelity contained within many marriages. All marriages, both happy and in trouble, can experience negative effects of these connections.

While there are many benefits to social networking, unfortunately when it comes to infidelity, there are many ways social networking can harm committed relationships and lead to marital affairs. Infidelity that begins online is one of the fastest rising factors attributed to marital problems.

Marriage counselors are seeing an increase in couples complaining about these sites as a major interference to their relationships. Marriage counselors have to deal with couples who experienced infidelity, but in our technological society-there is a new form of cheating-some hook up online with video cameras, some have cyber sex, others connect in-person.

It has also caused many other troubles in relationships, such as re-connecting with a past love or flirting on the social sites. this causes the other partner to distrust or have hostile feelings in the relationship.

here are a few stories to read about social-networking sites. feel free to discuss this issue on this thread.

Fact of the matter, is that if you respect your vows and mate you don't cheat. If you don't, you probably are a cheat and will find ANY way to do so.

But, they will always pay. Either, they'll get caught and will have to pay the piper or even if they think that they are getting away with it, it will still weight on their minds and they will always be waiting for the other shoe to drop. Most times both happens. In the end, it usually gets out and spouse and kids are hurt.

IS IS WORTH IT?

That's why I stay single. I am fortunate enough to be attractive since I was 14 or so and have NEVER dated the same girl longer than 2 months unless she wanted to stick around on a FWB basis. Around here if you make more than 125k a year you are a god and can have any girl you want these women are so easy. The problem is that 99% of the women here are overweight or getting that way and complete golddiggers. The goldigger part is what snags them everytime. All I have to do is invite them to a party at the house so they can see and get them goldigger ideas and then send I them home and don't talk to them for 3-4 days. Next time I call I tell them that they caught my eye they will beat a path to my door. Women around this area are so needy immature and predictable you can basicaly have any of them. Getting rid of them is the problem!

Here's the secret of getting rid of them.

1) Marry them

2) Cheat

3) You're gone. But so is half of everything else.

@ original poster:

One way to avoid the confusion of appearing single on Facebook is for partners to have a joint account. It is not much of a deterrent these days for a female to say she has a boyfriend or a husband. Suitors know this is the oldest lie in the book and will pursue anyway. One of the benefits (and disadvantages) of having a linked account is that both partners can log into it and see everything the other person writes, uploads or sends. There are no secrets, just like in a marriage.

I have a problem with your logic that Facebook is responsible for causing more affairs. It might be true that Facebook is the conduit which ultimately leads to people having affairs in some cases - but if we are going to blame facebook for this, we may as well blame the telephone, the phonebook, myspace, and the Internet as a whole.

The ways by which people communicate and interact have always sometimes led to affairs happening. Before the personal computer was our portal to the world, people lived in the real world. Business travelers met on airplanes and ended up having flings in hotel rooms. Single mothers fell in love with their kids' married swimming coaches. And churchgoers were tasting more than the body of Christ - they were also partaking of each others' flesh.

Should church be outlawed because it leads to affairs? Should swimming clubs be shut down because all the mingling that goes on at swim meets ultimately causes a few people to have extramarital affairs.

I think you need to work on your argument. You are not convincing me that facebook is the bane of healthy marriages.

I agree with everything this poster says. I am much more tempted by the look or the smell of a person up close than I am by the things they write or the pictures they post on a website like facebook. People can always misrepresent online, and you never know if "Julie from Wyoming" is as sexy as her facebook account makes her out to be. At least when I meet somebody in the flesh, I know who they are and what they look like, etc. Having a relationship with somebody (coworker, PTA partner, regular customer) also gives you a leg up on meeting people online.

I feel like the potential for affairs is 10X greater in meatspace than it is on myspace or facebook.
