Tri-Valley League Sports Application rejected by Center State Conference?

Any clue how the TVL is going to play out?

Eight schools that sought to join a Central New York league are going to have to come up with a Plan B after the Center State Conference rejected their applications, the Oneida Dispatch reported Saturday.

Tri-Valley League schools New Hartford, Oneida, Proctor, Rome Free Academy, Utica Notre Dame and Whitesboro were all turned down, as were Camden and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill -- both former TVL members that currently are independents.

Each application was voted upon separately, and CSC president Ron Wheelock told the paper the margins were decisive. The crucial issue had to do with school size; the TVL consists of schools with Class B or smaller enrollments but the majority of the applicants are either Class A or larger -- or, in the case of Notre Dame, small private schools that can draw from a wide geographic region.

The next step for the rejected schools is uncertain. Certainly, the TVL schools can remain together and perhaps even expand by seeking out new members that might help them to split into enrollment-driven divisions for better scheduling opportunities.

Less certain is what will happen to Camden and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill. Per sectional and NYSPHSAA rules, they can ask to be placed in a league. The catch there is that they could be dropped into the TVL only to have that organization's members choose to dissolve the league.

Im guessing the TVL will remain with VVS & Camden joining. RFA, Proctor and Ilion/Mohawk will and should find another league due to student population and athletic funding. The TVL would need to add 2 additional schools to make it legit.

New Hartford, Oneida, Utica Notre Dame, Whitesboro, Camden and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill with 2 added schools to bring it to an 8 team league.
