what is that building for anyways. No concerts no events. Who is the manager of it now. Not the same guy from before,I hope not. Why does the city do nothing with it. Are they still paying a crew down there to maintain it and do nothing. What a disgrace to this city that that place isnt a money maker. If I ran it I would get events all winter in place of Varick Street events , They could get the local bands to play there like the brewery does in summer . GET with it Roffaro. What are you stupid.

the city people have no brains ,they are afraid to get that place going, afraid the city will get sued for something so they leave the place unused and have a padded payrol hanging down there.What-- work-- whats that word for some city employees. When they hear that word they get poopy pants, those lazy bums .

Thre only thing the Aud is good for nowadays are the Cirus for 4 days every October, Utica College/Proctor hockey and NYS high school hockey tournaments. Can't remember the last time the Aud actually had a decent concert there.

The Utica Memorial Auditorium is not run, nor does the City of Utica, contribute to it. The Aud is the responsibility of Oneida County. It was once ran by the city, but several years ago the County took it over.

The only way the Aud would be successful is to have a management firm such as SMG who specializes in runnig arena's come in and take over. The county does not know how to run the Aud and what to do with it.

You can still watch some exciting Utica College mens and womens hockey at the Aud, and attend some college graduations there in the spring.
Any other entertainment, you have to go to Turning Stone.

for any of you who think that they know anything the AUD is privatly owned and not qwned by the city or the county. the AUD does have things going on maybe not concerts but take a look they do hockey, figure skating, basketball, monster trucks, cheerleadering, and much more. so in stead of putting a place down you may want to look at there web page and see what they have to offer

The Aud is not privately owned - before you insult someone else's intelligence, be sure that you know the correct facts. I work at the Auditorium (thank you for insulting me) during events and am wondering if you happened to miss the 2 sold out concerts that happened this past spring. Disturbed performed for a sold out crowd, followed 2 weeks later by Buck Cherry. There were many newspaper articles detailing the wonderful crowd and management at the Auditorium. There are many other events down there including food competitions, circuses, gun shows, wrestling, Globetrotters, and concerts. Yes there is a lot of hockey at the Aud, but it is winter in Upstate NY! The teams are all paying for ice time and attracting crowds, all of which benefit the Auditorium. If you have been to the Aud for a Mens or Womens UC Hockey game, you know there are people interested. If you want to see whats happening at the Aud, drive past the marquee in front or look on their website. To me, you sound like ignorant people who are judging a place from an impression you got 20 years ago.

They should install a brass pole and turn the place into a strip joint.
Then the cops won't have to travel that far to pick up strippers ( who eventually will become their girlfriend or wife ) once the cops wives find out and throw them out and divorce them.
As a wise old cop once said,
"What ever happened to all of the pigs?
...The cops ended up marrying them!"

Will and Betsy, along with Frankie, do an excellent job there, but somehow I feel their hands are tied to a degree. The city? The county? The shithole location? I don't know.

Turning Stone gets a lot of names but they probably would not fill half the aud, 20 or 30 years ago in their prime maybe, but not today. That is why they play the Turning Stone. Smaller venue. And still pretty good payment for the band. Of course, the casino, i am sure, probably eats a lot of that cost and keeps ticket prices down becaquse they will make up for it with those people gambling before and after the show.

Back in the day the aud rocked. Grateful Dead, Rush, Boston, Foreigner, Allman Brothers, Little Feat, The Cars, the list goes on and on. Always sold out. The Stanley had shows like Peter Gabriel and Asia. Now days, the aud can still sell out a concert, like those in the spring, but it's some band we never heard of, todays generation. Not the auds fault. These are up and coming bands just like many were in our day. Soon they won't think twice about playing such a venue. But that is the logistical situation of the aud. Good for up and comers, not a chance for classic top shelf acts, even if those acts prefer playing an aud size venue. That is because the aud is in a horribly economically depressed area, top shelf acts demand top shelf ticket prices and certain concession and souvenir expectation sales. Disturbed and Buck Cherry can sell out at cheap prices and that is the economic medium that must be accepted in Utica. Otherwise the doors would never open for a concert.

I kind of wish they, whoever they are that monetarily control the Aud, would get some stimulus money or grants or something, anything, and put a sizable chunk of money into it and re-invent itself as not just an aud but as a convention center as well. Screw the hotels opening on the skanky harbor, tie one into the aud and turn it into a convention center. The place is in desperate need of a sizable investment facelift. With that, there would be no reason not to get conventions and convention money into this area. For crying out loud, we are in the center of the state of New York. What better location for conventioneers from around the state and the Northeast?

That is what we should be investing in and promoting, not some halfass Rennaisance crap and posters drawn by some MVCC kid of sunrays that everyone knows seldom hit the valley.

Best to Will, Betsy and Frankie, you do a great job, hang in there.

does the aud have a usable basement or very large room(5,000 sq ft to 10,000 sq ft) in the basement? If so what is in it now? I know this sounds weird but I have an idea.

Always sukked always will, build some new ghetto projects there or something. Ever since Washington Courts and Goldbas Apts. have been demolished the blacks are running around Utica like cockroaches fleeing a house fire. Poor poor blacks need something to call there own.

The Aud is a great place the replacement cost is 100 plus million dollars. Cities all around the country would kill for this building. Events I see 75 to 90 events per year. Just because its not what some of you low life want to see dosent mean nothing is going on in the building. As far as the Mgt of the building goes they don't march themselves through out the community as big deals or have the good name of the building being dragged in the media for bad reasons. Since the Mgt took over the building look at all the improvments done over the years. The City, County, Local Villiages need to be proud to have the Aud. As far as Local bands go they can't fill the small bars in the area just ask any bar owner except the Government Funded Varick St. I have been to several events and know the Mgt. they care about that building you should also.

Yeah i do care about it and care to use it once in awhile too. I like concerts and always have do i as a taxpaying person have a right to equal time on use of the aud or do do places like MVCC have more rights to their events because of $$$$$?
