15 years of crooked leadership has buried this city. So sad, but true. We need a Hanna type leader, not the clowns we have.

You are 1000% right. When Hanna made cuts to the UPD&UFD he made cuts. He had compliments down to reasonable safe levels and saved us millions of dollars. He kept wages in line with other areas and didn't give away perks and lucrative benefits. Once he left it was all over. Roefaro alone raised benefits perks and lucrative contracts over 15 million dollars from 2007-2011. he was allowed to give away $10,000 promotions to several UPD&UFD, raised compliments, increased wages, kept show up pay, take home car, and new new new everything they asked for in the worse recession since the great depression and he funded it by kicking the can down the road until he quit and spent every dime in reserves to keep them funded which now leaves the city with a ugly bond rating, zero in reserves and a several million dollar debt. I'm sure Ed Hanna is rolling in his grave and weeping what happened as Roefaro gave away Utica to 300 public safety workers at the detriment of an entire city and the 33% of homeowners left to foot the bill. Ed built more city structures and brought in more business than the last 5 mayors put together , kept the city beautiful and people full of pride, Utica was the fourth safest city in America, streets and parks were clean. Hanna is truely missed by those who can see the trees through the forest. All the nay sayers are the lifer city employees who enjoyed living off the taxpayers teet with the corruption before him and that followed him. Where can we find another great man like that that truely had taxpayers and the city truely at heart and not just the family and friends plans of todays mayors who only care about the inside operations and screw the taxpayers each and every year. Roefaro has put this city which was 20 years behind the times in the first place another twenty years on top of that. I would have to live and die twice to see any change from the Roefaro era.

Hanna also was the only mayor who resigned office in disgrace and cost the city 250,000 because of his sexual gratifiication.

Would pay 250k over the 15 million given to the pubic servants any day. You believe what you want. Hanna was a great mayor who had the taxpayers and city in mind instead of the friends and family plan. Which will soon be ending when the state takes over and lays off half the police force and half three fire department and takes away all those BS benefits they have. We will see them who wants to be a FF OR COP.

hanna started out with good intentions ....but as things go he became part of the problem as the power went to his head and he became a political machine himself with all his money and power.. and later benny had the goods on him and controled him and should I say more beyond that.
