Welfare recipients to get $ for kids ...
Loving Mom of 5

Mommy of 5, don't let these people get to you. Let them get themselves all in a tizzy over something they have no control over. Just do your part by taking the money and doing right by it. Only you have the power to rise above these "people" that get off on saying hurtful things to others. There is no such thing as a child that is a "mistake". All children are blessings, whether they were wanted/planned, or unwanted/unplanned. A life is a life. Gifts of God. Be thankful for all you have, even if it's only a little. I love my family more than anything, and I will do what I have to so they have what they should. I have paid into a system my whole life that supports others like us, and now I need the help. Soon enough, I won't need it, and I'll be paying into the system again. It balances itself out. Don't stress over this stupid blog. It's entertaining to see all these people that are all upset about something they have no control over. It's sad that they have the time to type ignorant things. Use the time more wisely and give support to families in need instead of bashing them!!! What goes around comes around...

To mommy of 5 and others. Glad to hear your getting a bailout. Enough rich ones were helped this year, but the middle class always gets angry with the poor ones. Bet not one of them would trade places with someone on welfare even for a day. So they have a cell phone or maybe a flat screen TV....that doesn't give them a middle class existence. I'm thankful for what I have and don't begrudge my money going to help out the less fortunate. Yes there are abuses in the system...it's expected. Why don't you direct your energy and anger at the abuses of the politicians, big business and our state unions. That's where are real tax dollars are going. Abuse in welfare is just a small piece of the pie.

look at your kids and kids your close to ! They are innocent the deserve a christmas like everyone else , put aside your harsh feelings towards the parents for a few and put just once remeber back when u were a kid feeling of not getting anything or imagine for a sec to feel what it may be like . Not saying your wrong about your feelings and rightful arguments but be careful what you say and do , think about what you saying you might convince someone not to give this year and that can be tradgic , i myself am giving more this season because i know there are hard times out there and iam fortunate enough to be blessed with a few things . You are who u are doesnt matter if we dont know your name and miserable comments ..it will take its toll on you , ugly miserable selfish waste of space .. think before you speak !

I am a mom of 3 and work fulltime. ran into some financial hardship during x-mas once and did i ask family, toy drives, or social services for help? NO. Were my kids disappointed they only had a couple of gifts each and not the whole underneath of the tree bombarded with presents they will play with for five minutes: of course they were. But you know what, that disappointment faded and once I got back on my feet, then we bought things they wanted. So for the ones on welfare, tough shyt. Most claim mental illness as a reason they can't work but boy those brains work fine when they want hand outs. too-ta-loo..

Yea shame on her ...those kids will never forget you may think they will they wont ...be honest i think she was just lazy to make an effort for her kids send the message that your not willing to swallow some pride and give your kids the best christmas you can give them and in return give something back when u get back up on your feet but hey that asking too much ,it would have taught the kids a lesson a good one at that ...like i said your too busy for that ! Look at the kids today not just poor ones your ignorant if you think your to good for everyone and anyone you put down ...it happens to all of us , make something positive out of it ...miserable ugly you are!

Ok to all of the people who have no money but wouldnt mind a hand out to give their kids a nice Christmas...my questions is Are u willing to work for it? there are plenty of elderly people who could use their sidewalks shoveled this winter or someone to go to the store for them, or take them to doctors appointments. Most of us working people dont have a probably helpin out but could u at least give back to the community? So for every dollar u get per kid you should have to pay it back in community service time!

most are way to busy to do that. it would be a great thing though.
if the gov is giving out 200 to 400 per child i will say this....
there are people out there working 40 plus hours a week and cant afford to spend 400 on each child for xmas. i have always said if you cant feed them dont breed them! did you ever think something could happen down the road and maybe 2 kids would be better. this isnt the 60's and you can get tubes tied and nuts clamped. if you have family see if they will help. my kid will not get 400 spent on him so why does someone get 400 to spend on their kid? socialism is coming quicker than you think.

Has anyone heard that they plan to give out free money again like they did for school clothes for Christmas gifts. Are you fuckin kidding me! I go to work every god damn day and struggle to pay my bills and do a modest christmas and they are going to hand people money to buy gifts that do nothing but live off the system. This is just crazy! This happens and I am quiting my job and goin on welfare.
With the foul language you used in this post you sound like someone who might get coal for Christmas.

I am a working man. Have worked all my life. But I don't worry about someone getting a little help. I say good for them. If they don't deserve it that's between them and God. You sound real bitter that you work. I am just glad that I am able to work. Some abuse the system but they are not going to clean sidewalks. Some deserve help but they are the ones that are probably not able to clean sidewalks. I work because I feel good about earning my own way. I unlike you are not mad because I work. You need to think about what you say.

It doesn't look like this thread is going to lead to any Christmas spirit. I take no stance here about Welfare recipients as in who takes advantage of it and who needs it. Obama, with the approval of Congress, gave Stimulus money to the state. Our New York legislators chose how to distribute the Stimulus money. So they decided to spend some of it on welfare kids, so what? If you don't agree with it complain to the lawmakers who decide where to spend "your tax money". You don't have to be a registered voter to do that. You can look them up on the internet and email them.

All the same we're talking about kids having a present for Christmas. The way some of you are expressing yourselves it sounds like you think kids whose parent(s) are on welfare should not have a Christmas. Some of those who complain will be putting piles of gifts under the tree for their own kids, all the while complaining that they couldn't have bought more because of a lousy $5.00 going to a welfare kid.

It used to be that gift giving at Christmas was a simple gesture of love for a family member, nothing big, but bought or made with someone special in mind. Christmas shouldn't be about greed or denying a child who didn't put himself in the position to be on welfare.

It's not the fault of the children(and more often than not)or the parents. Yes as always there are people who are cheats....If this money does go for the kids then it is a good thing and will bring a smile to their faces and hopefully their hearts!

Christmas is a religious holiday that the Federal Government recognizes. Get it, paid holiday for federal employees, White House Christmas tree? What were you meaning to say about the "government cannot possibly get involved"?

I am a single father who struggles every day. I have had a awful time trying to find work locally, I was laid of back in mid 2005 due to the Tyco. scandal.. i have worked and am currently working at a dead end job, i have gone from making 60k+ to under 20k...

I would have never made some of the comments that some of YOU loyal Topix followers have made about welfare recipients,,
I HOPE THE DAY never comes that you find yourself sitting alone on Christmas eve while your kids are sleeping in their bed and you are crying alone because groceries and housing are more important than spoiling your 2 boys with gifts in honor of Christ...

so times people aren't "lazy" or "drug addicts, they are just struggling..

mommy, please don't even wait your time responding. Those who have NEVER been on welfare typically down play the benefit and place blanket stereo-types because the are simply ingnorant. My sister had a child early on in life and received both welfare and social service support as a single mother. She received those benefits for roughly 6 years. In that time she aso qualifed for several educational grants.. and now she has a Masters and is a school teacher teaching children with special needs. Understand, had it not been for the support that she receieved from both the state in which she lived and this great country in which we live, none of this would have been possible...
To all ignorants:
Understand that the funds that you speak of going to families for kids school clothes and even the potential christmas $'s.. it's my opinion that this is soo much in line with what "STIMULUS" money should be used for. At some point in time, we are all going to benefit. As the funds are being given to folks who are aren't going to sit on them... they are going to push those dollars right back out into the economy. Honestly if you gave me 2 or 4 hundred right now.. i'd probably shove it under my pillow or stick it in a savings account at some small community bank (not truly pushing it back out into the economy..

REALLY, and I NOW I SOUND CRAZY, even if some lady gets it and decides to go get her har done.. some beauty shop is getting business and maybe thats one less job lost in thE end.....

Has any of you negative posters ever tried to support a family of 6 on $900 a month Disability check?

Once the rent is paid, the utility bill, water bill and basic cable - there is absolutely no money left to buy food to feed everyone. That is where Food Stamps is such a blessing and helps to feed everyone for a month if you buy cuts of meat (hamdburger, stew meat, chicken, etc) that can stretch one meal into two.

I would never deny helping a family that is unable to help themselves due to a life threatening disability. This is what America is noted for.

On the otherhand, the Welfare 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. Generations get no pity from me as from what I've seen and heard, they all think Welfare and their entitlements are their "right" - and have absolutely no pride in themselves or their future. These are the type of people that do NOT deserve anything "extra" for Christmas as it will be spent on drugs and booze - not Christmas gifts for the children.

Look, not all welfare cases are scum and some just use it for a little while to get back on their feet. I have no problem with them. However, we all know the vast majority of people on welfare are lazy scum. I was a social worker for 6 years and I saw how thses people lived. Never used the $ for help to better themselves, never cleaned their apartments, always had a man staying with them for free who in most cases was a drug dealing thug. I could go on and on but in all reality they are SCUM. Defend them all you want but I know what my eyes have seen in those six years. And yes, this may sound racist but too many afro-americans have no pride and would rather be lazy leeches then punch a clock. Just saying.....
