Binghamton's venue has a capacity of 4710 making it larger than the AUD. More seats=more revenue.

Then there's this from the article:
“One of the things that’s helped us, and still is helping us, is our government,” said B-Sens executive vice president of operations Tom Mitchell, who is also a part-owner.“Our county government is very supportive, along with Sen.(Tom) Libous, and it’s one of the reasons it keeps going. They help a lot in keeping the building in the condition the AHL hockey teams require.”

Where do you suppose Oneida Count would get money? Take into account that Oneida County taxpayers are on the hook for a loan that was taken out to cover pension contributions so that the current budget could be under the 2% cap. There is no money.

Utica is Utica. A more apt comparison would be to compare Utica with Amsterdam or other smaller upstate city that is struggling to keep its' head above water and a state control board out.

"More seats=more revenue."

Tell that to Albany, Hartford, Abbotsford, Charlotte, et cetera.

If your point is that Utica's attempt at garnering an AHL franchise is futile due to budgetary constraints, I wholeheartedly agree. I just disagree with the notion that it takes a building with a large capacity to make an AHL team more viable.

You are right but there has to be a break even point. I agree that a larger venue does not guarantee revenue but the larger the venue the better the chances of a greater average attendance. You have to put butts in the seats. Seating capacity for hockey according to the AUD website is 3800.

Is that enough to support a team long term even if they sell out every home game (which is highly doubtful to anyone who was around during the Utica Devils era)?

It will take building that meets the requirements of the NHL for their AHL affiliates from what I've read. The Utica AUD does not currently meet those requirements and would require multiple millions of dollars in upgrades to do so. I believe that the movers and shakers behind this scheme are lobbying hard for public funding of the upgrades.

You would be incorrect.

I know that I've pestered the pro-AHL posters on here but I'm actually supportive of the idea, it's just Utica has been burned so many times in the past that it's hard to embrace a plan that hasn't officially been announced.

With dimwits like Jeff Croop and Jack Tompkins leading the failed UHL effort(s) at the Aud and subsequently fleecing both the community and their own players in the process combined with the plans in the late 90s, early 2000s of moving other AHL teams to Utica (Kentucky Thoroughblades and then the Cleveland Barons off the top of my head) only to see those plans fall apart quicker than the Hindenburg, you uber-pro AHl posters have to see our skepticism.

If the AHL plan does come to fruition, great. I will gladly eat crow on this one.
