Is there any place that even comes close to the old Jeans Beans Fish Fry?

The only fish that reminds me most of "Jeans Beans" is buying food at the "Kossuth Fish Market" in East Utica, and having it fried on the premisis. Awesome!!

Great childhood memories driving to South Utica with my parents waiting in those long lines and visiting with most of Utica on a Friday night (especially packed during Lent)to bring dinner home or to enjoy on one of the park's picnic tables in the summer.

You may also end of picking up a gallon or two of "King Cole" ice cream on the way home as it was close by.

Outside of seafood, does anyone remember "Chicken Delight?" That was also in South Utica a couple of doors down from "Dan Dee" Donuts.

Utica was really thriving back then with GE, Chicago Pneumatic, etc. as well.

White Tower, remember that place ? I grew up near Jeans Beans and I can remember the only thing you could smell within 8 blocks was that great fish cooking ! Man I miss those days ! Why did they ever close and was there more than 1 because I thought I drove by a place somewhere else with the same name but didn't have time to stop.

The home base for Jeans Beans is on State Street in Watertown. They've been there for at least 50 years. The owners retired and passed the business on to the son about 15 years ago. He has a full time aircraft job at Fort Drum, though, so I think he has someone else manage it for him.

When I was a kid we went to Jeans Beans every friday after the four o'clock Stations of the Cross. They had great fish, frie, slaw, and beans. Those long loaves of french bread were great too.

That was "West End Seafood" owned and run by Shirley Scialdo and family. It was on Erie Street. No longer there as she retired. Was another great place for seafood.

Along with "Kossuth Fish Market," the "Whitesboro Fish Market" on Main Street in the village is very good as well.

Haven't been there in years but LBJ's in Whitesboro had the best fish fries. Anyone know if they still serve them?

I seriously doubt that Eddie at the lunch box is serving fish fries. The days of the local taverns serving good food are over. Too much competition from the regular resteraunts and fast food places, and the old folks who worked like dogs, are all dead. This is a new, faster paced world that we live in. I dont believe that the changes are all for the better either.

I agree 100% most of the changes are not for the better at all.

Country Kitchen in Rome has a good fish fry too. Lots of sides to pick from. Not just french fries and cole slaw.
