So are there any positives to sending a 8th grader there? 9th grade next year? Will they help him academically if he struggles? They talk a good game but I'm a little nervous about making the change after reading all this. Positives? Negatives? Why do kids keep leaving and going back to RFA and proctor!?

Read the whole thread. There are no pluses only negatives. Simply put, go to a public school or a charter school. Stay away from ND, it is a sinking ship. Your kids will thank you for not disrupting their lives with a failing school. They will get better academic instruction by certified teachers in a public school and have a greater course selection to choose from. There is also a greater variety of extracurriculars in a public school. If your children need extra-help, the teachers are there to help every day after school.

People do it mostly to shelter kids from the real world. It's a place where mommy and daddy can just snap their fingers and everything in sunshine and roses until your kid struggles or is learning disabled. Then nd takes your money and sends your kid to proctor for services. Worse yet if they don't make the grade, nd reserves the right to toss the kid out on his ear. Remember 100% graduation rate and 100% go on to college!!! That is the biggest bs line I have ever heard. Lmfao

They were fine until they gave up the cash cow of bingo and pull tabs on Saturday and Sunday nights. They've gone downhill ever since. Too bad

Why do you think the sylvan learning center is next door to notre dame ? They make a living on ND kids. The uncertified low paid teachers dont get the job done so they have to pay for extra help next door. Pay 5500 tuition...200 sport participation fee. Buy your uniforms from the only company they offer you..so they get their kick back. Numerous fundraisers and extra help at Sylvan. By years end you will spend 8-10,000. Just look at their facilities..pitiful

What I don't get is why they $hit on everybody that actually works hard and cares? Leuthauser, Byron Abraham, Kev Green for example. The get rid of gene as ad Iike he is old garbage. They basically fire Byron and he was the reason like 40 kids went there to begin with. They hire an AD w no experience and never even interview Kevin Green or ask him if he's interested.
But yet they let that old decrepit lady run the school??? No admin degree. Who would send their kid to that hole knowing all this?

She doesn't have an Admin degree? That's unbelievable. How many teachers there don't have certification? I was told 2 when I asked.

Did u say only 2 when you asked....well they lied. And you should have asked how many teachers do you have who dont even have a college degree....yes thats right. They have a teacher that dont even have a college degree let alone certified. Just take a tour there and ask to meet the teachers. You will see old, sloppy out of shape people. How can anyone sit and speak to the fat obnoxious principal and feel confident about sending your kid there.

I don't honestly know exact numbers when it comes to teacher certifications. What I do know is that Proctor has all certified teachers, a 58% graduation rate and low standard test scores. Teacher certifications don't then guarantee a successful educational outcome. ND students take the same standard tests including SAT's as all of the rest. A comparison of standard test scores and graduation rates are the best objective method for comparison we have. The educational outcome is what is important.

Everyone should make their own decision about where their children are better off. Ask to take a tour there. Talk to teachers. Talk to students. Look at classrooms. Make up your own mind.

The top 50 kids at proctor per class blow the Notre Dame graduating away every yr in academics, college graduation etc! Proctor graduates 600 per class to NDs 50. I guarantee u that 300 of the proctor graduates per class do as well in life if not better than NDs 50. Forget about proctors top 50. Nd is a $hithole

When the Jesuits left, the school went slowly into a downward spiral. The Jesuits were know to be physically and mentally abusive to the boys, but they were definitely a notch above the lame brains that 'teach' there now.

all you people need to move on,, if you don't want your kid at ND don't send them. Nobody is forcing anybody. Had 4 kids go there , no tuition help , all got into good colleges ,and all graduated in 4 years. ND wasn't as nice as a new school , teachers were fine , all this BS about no cert is BS
