How about these worthless scums who WERE FIGHTING OVER A PARKING SPACE shut the f**k up and learn how to speak ENGLISH. That is right--WE SPEAK ENGLISH in America. If you don't understand English and you want to behave like a worthless monkey and RESIST ARREST,then you deserve what you get!!!! Officers should not have to put themselves in danger and this lawsuit will ultimately put the lives of our police officers in danger. DO NOT endanger the lives of our officers by making them second guess their instincts to please immigrants who refuse to learn our language and who also think that it is acceptable behavior to fight in the street like a bunch of baboons over a parking space!

Donít like it here? Being mistreated, disrespected, then move your hairy azzes back to wherever it is that you came from. America does not owe you Sh*t. When other cultures came here they learned the customs and language of their new home. They embraced America and the freedoms it provided. These people are complaining about treatment that they brought onto themselves, by acting like animals.

They are nothing but parasites. They have lived here on handouts and now they are looking for the big bucks in a lawsuit. I hope their greasy, hairy asses are hauled to court and they are fined for causing a disturbance. Don't speak the language?? Tough shittt. Learn it, pinheads, or go back to your stinking bug infested flyspeck in the ocean and stay their.

Actually English is a migrant language. Cherokee would be an example of a native language.

Six individuals plan to file lawsuits against Utica

UTICA, N.Y.(WKTV)- A family claiming excessive police force sat down with the Utica Police Chief and the Utica Mayor Friday, to talk about an incident that was caught on tape.

On Thursday, the group staged a peaceful protest that got the attention of city officials. Six members of the family are now filing lawsuits against the city. "They saw the video tape," said Vivian Maldonado, speaking on behalf of the family. "They spoke about what happened, what they can do to help us."

Maldonado is Puerto Rican and so is her husband's family. Many of them only speak Spanish. All parties agree, there's a language barrier in the city. "That's a big problem with a lot of nationalities in Utica," said Maldonado. "There's a lot of different cultures and there's not a lot of people who know how to speak all these languages."

Family members say back on March 27th, there was a disagreement between neighbors over a parking spot. Soon afterwards, the cops were called. "The problem was already escalated when the cops got there but it could have been resolved if the officers did speak Spanish," said Maldonado. "Spanish speaking officers could of interpreted it and said calm down- or have someone there to help the situation but they didn't have that."

Family members say police used excessive force and made several unnecessary arrests. Chief Williams says cases like this deserve investigation. "When I came here what I was mainly interested in 'was there alleged police misconduct?' and that was my main goal for coming here because if there was, I have the responsibility to hold my own officers responsible if that was the case," said Utica Police Chief Williams. "It gives us some opportunity to see if there was some wrongdoing on our officers part or as a community as a police department we can do better by maybe training to try and break some barriers, trying to explain to their community their group to explain to them what police procedure is about. We'd be willing to do that."

Chief Williams was able to watch the video. "I didn't see anything damning, that was anything out of the ordinary," said Chief Williams. "But in fairness to them they are currently sitting with the guys from Office of Professional Standards to go over frame by frame of the video."

Six members of the family are filing lawsuits against the city. Each filed written complaints inside City Hall on Friday.

Maldonado says her father-in-law was beat by police officers during his arrest last month. She interpreted some of what he was saying inside City Hall on Friday. "He says he wants the racism to stop. He says we're Puerto Ricans, but we're citizens. They treated us like immigrants and we're not."

The family said overall they were pretty satisfied with the meeting and with Chief Williams. They say he was very nice and listened to what they had to say.

The man who was filming the video was also arrested that day. He says it was devastating, especially for it to happen in front of his small children. He says he was not doing anything wrong and would simply like an apology from the officer that arrested him. He says he is studying English so that he could become a police officer in Utica.

The family says fixing the language barrier in the city would be a huge step in the right direction and are calling this a big misunderstanding.

The family members who are filing lawsuits against the city say they are meeting with their lawyers to determine how to move forward.

"There's a lot of different cultures and there's not a lot of people who know how to speak these languages."

First, there is NOBODY that can speak EVERY language spoken in this city! Secondly, according to Maldonado, there should have been a police officer present at that exact moment who could speak Spanish to "calm down" overgrown toddlers who were too stupid to understand that in America you cannot just beat down your neighbor over a f***king parking space and that when the "policia" show up, its time to f***cking stop. I swear if these scummy idiots win this court case, I am leaving this liberal, bulls**t, everybody matters BUT the law-abiding taxpayer, state for good!

If English is not the official language of the USA then why are we required to spend extra tax dollars on teaching ESL.

Also as a family member why did you not translate for your father-in-law? If it was my father-in-law I would have.

In Puerto Rico do they teach Spanish in their schools and have SSL(Spanish as a Second Language), do they require their police departments to have English speaking officers to translate?

I know I'll get flamed for this by the political correctness police as well as everyone on this site who likes to slam Italian Americans. But I'm gonna say it anyway.

I have an uncle who came right from Italy when he was a little boy (this was back in the 1940's). Back then, you were expected to learn the language as quickly as possible once you arrived in America, and there wasn't much in the way of help if you didn't: no interpretors or public signs in multiple languages were provided. When you first arrived, you could hope to have a friend or relative help you, but it was on you to learn the language. My uncle once told me that a teacher at his elementary school told him he would advance further in life if he worked to get rid of his accent..advice he took and never regreted. Can you imagine the outcry against a teacher now who gave a child this advice?

This is the problem, everyone is worried about being offensive, or racist, or offensive. When the reality is that this is America, if your here you have to adapt. Everyone makes themselves out to be victims/minorities instead of taking action on their own.

OK so according to them the police were wrong for not knowing spanish, but their family is not wrong for not knowing english??????. This has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. It is not the responsibility of the police to know every language, its gotta be impossible. But as other posters have said and I have to agree, if you move your life to another area where a different language is spoken it is YOUR responsibility to learn that language. If there is suspicion of police misconduct, investigate it, but when it comes to the complaint of police not knowing spanish the police chief and mayor should have stood strong and told them its not the police dept's , fire dept's, banks, mailmans job to know or learn YOUR language its your responsibilty to learn and know OURS!!!!!
