They should have kept Swisher
I still haven't made up my mind about that... Lets see if he can be the big guy in Cleveland. I hope he does well,he's a good guy.

I just like him because he was very consistent for the Yanks. Plus he could play first base as well as the outfield. Very valuable.

5 major players on the DL plus they dump Swisher, Martin and others. They're going from a record amount of home runs last season to a lame excuse for a team.
Not over paying for Martin was a smart move. The jury is still out with swisher. And for today's loss it was only four players on the DL...Hughes if healthy would have had no factor in the loss. On the other side I believe youk will out produce the platoon they had last year at 3rd base anyhow and tex is transparent until June. Granderson is pretty much a strikeout or home run now. The team on paper is horrible...hopefully they can get it together and move forward. I will also say this...if on opening day...at home....with your ace going and you get get whipped? Usually the prospects of a strong season are not good.

Here's the deal on the NYY.
Hank Steinbrenner has no clue about how to run a major league ballclub into a winning situation. He is all about making money and not about winning baseball games.
It will not be a fun time for fans. Hank will frustrate Yankee fans into rooting for another club. This year is just the beginning of the end.

Strip the payroll down over the next 2-3 years, rebuild thru the minors and consequently totally abandone the Boss' business plan. Now we see why George originally put his son-in law Steve in charge of the Yanks, because George knew his 2 biological sons were clueless, brainless and gutless. RIP winning Yankees.

Yanks are a lock for last place. They have no bats, old guys that stink nd there pitching sucks too. CC is hurting, Kuroda ok and the rest are terrible. Joba is no good at all. Last is a sure thing.

It's all about getting that payroll under 189 million by 2014. Right now the team is handcuffed by aging players with enormous contracts. Nothing they can do but wait it out.

I didn't say 5 players on the DL had to do with the loss. I simply stated how they went from a record season of power to a lame team, thanks in part to losing some players and 5 on the DL.

They've overpaid for plenty of players--like Youk and now Vernon Wells. They could have used Martin. It's not looking for for the Yankees.

Martin makes zero sense in the current configuration of the yankees. Did the yankees overpay for youk? Yup. They were battling a two year offer he had...he got one at stupid money...it's all about that cap for 2014 and the luxury tax ramifications. Youk was the best way to try and remain competitive while achieving their ultimate goal.
