This is why we taxpapers should start insisting the School Board go back to the good old days of Neighborhood Schools.
As a taxpaper, if I can afford to buy a house and live in a decent neighborhood that also has a decent school, my children should be allowed to go to that school with their friends from the same neighborhood.
All this busing from one slum and another to nice schools in nicer sections of our City has NOT accomplished anything in all the years it has been going on.
All it does is show our "decent" children how the savages act and live and how they sell dope and threaten our children on a daily basis and NOTHING is ever done to prevent it.
No wonder people don't want to buy houses in Utica - all because of our lousy school system.
. Back when the board became deadlocked after Myer Budoff, resigned from the board there was an election between The Late Philip Vanno whom was for the dismantling of the nieghborhood schools in favor of the worst consoladtion plan ever proposed, his opponent was an active taxpayer against consoadtion his name was Rick Vellone that election was pivotal, when the financial reports cam out Mr.Vanno had spent over $60,000 dollars a lot of money for a non paying position, his opponent spent less than $500.What a major mistake this group of very well connected people donated that much money. Then everybody's friends recieved the large contracts. This just goes to show you how dirty school board politics is, and look where we are NOW.

It is that very attitude that will be the downfall of America. YOU need to read a book on Muslim terrorists or turn on the news any day and any time to see what a great group you are supporting..wake up, loser. Does 9/11 mean anything to you??? Does SARAN gas ring a bell. They kill Americans by the score any chance they get and you think they are good??? Go live in Iraq, traitor.
Not all Muslims are terrorists. The same is true for Americans; we as individuals cannot be blamed for what terrorists in our country have been done to innocent children and adults.

Also you might want to look up the prejudice in the dictionary. I'm no saying that every Muslim is a good person I'm just saying that you shouldn't hate a whole group of people based on a few.

BTW, please cite your book you refer to in your comment. I'm tired of people making comments as if they are facts without citing their source. Back it up. Let's see how reputable your source is. I'm not saying that there are not racists books out there, I just don't you think you really have a source.

Thank you for this factual information. I am from the generation of where I went to my neighborhood school during my Grammer education with the friends I grew up with. There was NO guns, violence, insults, etc. and we all knew and liked each other. Then, the same group went to UFA where we met other kids from different neighborhoods and, as usual, there were the "bad" kids from the "bad neighborhood" that most of us stayed away from. To this day, some of these neighborhood friends still remain my friends after all these years.

My Grandchildren have grown up with the Magnet School concept of where the "bad kids" are bused to the "nice" neighborhoods and all that have been accomplished are negative. These "bad" kids still act like they do in their "bad" neighborhoods and disrupt classes and even assault teachers. The concept of changing these "bad" kids with the influence of the "good" kids does NOT work!!!

My Grandchildren stayed with their own group of neighborhood friends while attending Proctor, but they saw and heard things they should never have been exposed to. Education is a joke in Utica - that is why there is such a low graduation rate in Proctor = the only High School Utica has!!!!

If I had young children beginning their school education, I certainly would NOT buy a house in Utica!!!!

You write as if English is your second language. You did not completely understand what the poster stated and most of your post is based on misinterpretation. I suggest you go back and reread the comment and get help from a native speaker in understanding the vernacular. In the future, don't be so quick to cry prejudice and racist--with your limited understanding of written expression, it only makes you look like an azz.

Actually, the fact of the matter is the low graduation rate is due to the FACT that Proctor is a "MELTING POT" so to speak. These kids can't speak English, let alone read well enough to comprehend to pass state tests, thus low scores, thus, graduating in 5-6 years instead of 4 years.I sub at Proctor, New Hartford and Whitesboro on a regular basis, and can tell you that I have seen and heard things that made my hair stand on end! There is good and bad in ALL schools, in ALL districts...we have to keep an open mind..kepp an eye on the company your children keep.

Muslims. Frown. Aside from the Bosnians, which I mostly like, I can't stand the muslims that feel the need to wear bedsheets. We are lucky enough to have some for neighbors. They are deathly afraid of our 2 dogs. Both top the scale at 15 pounds each. Growm muslim men will RUN to their back door when our dogs are out.
Also, as said up above, these people are the nastiest, dirtiest people I've ever seen. I wouldn't set foot into their house if ya paid me. Cockroaches everywhere I'm guessing. Hopefully moving soon. Maybe even back to Maine. Then I'll be comfortably surrounded by white people again. Thank god.

. The low graduation rate is due to the fact that the state doesn't recognize kids that don't graduate in 4 years. Utica's population isn't the suburbs. ESL, special ed, GED students don't count, if they don't fall in the safe harbor numbers.

a melting pot implies that they assimilate. what is washing ashore now do not assimilate. they refuse to learn english, associate only with their own kind except when the need arises for food, clothing and shelter which sappy white people provide. you give me, i take, and it ends there.

clueless...your definition is just that,'your definition. Get educated.. a 'melting pot' is the immigration of many different cultures and races that come together to form an integrated society. They DO NOT refust to learn English if they are in school..come visit the schools , they are more eager to learn than your sons/daughters! You need to change your attitude..is this what you are teaching your children?? I bet you are on social services, and you are afraid that they might take what you feel should be yours. Get a job.

Your crystal ball is foggy, toots. Your little diatribe is based on your incorrect definition of melting pot--which is taught in schools around 4th grade--guess you didn't do well in school.

Since I have been in the teaching profession for 21 years, and presently a professor at SUNY , it behooves me to tell you that your response to a certain thread is more frightening than that thread you are responding to. How sad, when we think we know it all, and in reality, know nothing at all!

Speaking of foggy, toots, maybe you should look up the definition of 'melting pot' I believe 'Toots" is spot on. It is what I learned, and before responding to YOU, I looked it up and, once again,'Toots' is Spot On. I guess YOU didn't do well in LIFE, let alone school! LOL
