You people have no idea what your talking about as usual. First off fire dept is straight time, not time and a half. Second you know how much money the city has saved on fire dept? There has been almost 20 openings for almost 2 years now. Do you know what the savings have been because of not paying for health care? Around 25000 a man. That's 500,000 a year plus the 1.2 million ambulance brings in. You wonder why 4 different mayors don't want to cut? If 4 different mayors don't think it's a good idea it's prob not. I think they know a little more then you
No time and half.. Lets see 2 - 24 hour shifts a week equals 48 hrs. Thats 8 hrs a week of overtime per man times 52 weeks that is alot of overtime. That doesn't includ shift coverage or emergency call backs.
How is what you are saying a savings. Utica has no money you aren't saving anything cut 20 positions then that is a savings.
What color is the grass in your world.

I would say more like 70-80%...esp. the public safety employees. Its great to rape a city for a paycheck and get the cadillac of pay and bennys as long as you don't have to live in the rotting snake pit called oootica by living in the city you work for and return some of that money in the form of property taxes. All of the past mayors, including our present one, are terrified of the public safety unions. Except for Ed Hanna.

Let me ask you..... Who is more concerned with the general welfare of the city? An employee, whether or not he lives in the city, who's major source of income is the city of Utica, or you crybaby taxpayers who are concerned with paying $50 a year more in taxes?

Need to get rid of the fat lazy bastards on both UPD and UFD. Put civilians in the office and desk jobs so the officers are out patrolling the streets instead of trolling Topix and Facebook. And take pay and benefit cuts like the rest of the real world has. Don't like it, leave the job I'm sure there are plenty ready to take your place.

Let me ask YOU....WHY is it that an overwhelming majority of city employees, esp. the public safety ones, do NOT or WILL NOT live in the city??? Is it possible the city property tax burden is just too onerous even for our well-compensated UPD & UFD heroes? Even if enough homes were available in the better parts (i.e.-N.& S. Utica) why do so many choose to live elsewhere? And don't give me that bullsh*t its a free country...you can live anywhere. The tax burden is too fkn high and its mainly the the public safety contracts.

Qualifications....LMAO, take a civil dummy exam. Not that hard. A third grader could pass it. Oh and the agility.. Not that hard. Do I want that job hell no. But I'm sure there are people that do. See I went to college and planned my future so I don't need to rely on the public welfare to Pay me. So back to qualifications,, Bahahaha!
