Again, you are talking about 150 years ago. Let's talk about the post civil rights era when special laws were passed/enforced and extra benefits were given. Let's talk post affirmative action. And lastly, let's post using our own words and thoughts rather than palgerizing the words of others. Why in the last 50 years have waves of immigrants (not all white, Vietnamese for instance) come to this country with litttle more than the clothes on their backs and bypass blacks economically in a relatively short period of time? Asians are certainly distinguishable from other American much like what you say holds blacks and hispanics back. That takes care of your skin color arguement I think.
I understand exactly what happened with the Irish. I'm very familiar with how they were treated and what they did to succeed. At a time when both blacks and Irish worked the same jobs the Irish as agroup decided to work for less and to have less with the ultimate goal of getting ahead in America. That squeezed blacks out of the job market by settling for less compensation with the long term goal of getting ahead. Let's talk about the last 50 years though when blacks were given preference over the Irish and the rest of America through affirmative action programs. Why haven't they been able to take advantage of these helping hands up and succeed economically?
When I look around I see a lot black people trying to make themselves different from other Americans rather than doing the things that would allow them to be woven into the fabric of our culture and society. I see some successful black people like Dr. Bill Cosby, Dr Walter Williams and Dr Thomas Sowell urging young black people, young black men especially, to educate themselves and pursue the American Dream only to be called race traitors or "Uncle Toms". Why is that? Why don't more young black people pursue business ownership and things like that which would make them an economic force? They don't even own businesses in communities where they are the majority. Why is that?
I think I've said this to you before too. When you cut and paste from things that others have written as you've done again here you really should put it in quotes and give credit where it ius due. All anyone hreading this has to do is cut and paste any of these recent posts in a search engine to find these exact words(not yours) posted in any number of places. That's known as plagerism.

You are asking too much.
The Irish came here and many were kind of shitty. They were ill mannered and uneducated louts. They were really good at the operational qualities of the shovel and stump-puller and created the Erie Canal that allowed the United States to expand into the west.
They also were opposed to the liberation of the slaves because they thought that they would be pushed out of the jobs the had by former slaves who would work for less than they. In the early twentieth century the beginnings of the construction trade unions was because of the influx of freed blacks that would work for less than the average white worker.
The trade unions were a direct result of racism. That in itself makes the claim of Democrats that unions are for everyman a lie. Democrats wore the hood of the KKK and elected officers of the KKK to Congress.

Besides that it was Democrats that supported Bull Conner, Robert Byrd, Lester Maddox, LBJ (who said things about black folks that I refuse to repeat here but involved the "N" word), George Wallace and many others.
Affirmative action is nothing more than leftist racism disguised as a helping hand to the oppressed to make it more palatable for their more sensitive fellow travelers. Leftists obviously believe that black folks are just too ignorant, too lazy and just too dang listless to achieve success without the help of their great white lefty benefactors.
Nothing is more condescending than listening to a leftist lecture those who have worked side by side with anyone who could do the work, who could start their own business and thrive and didn't give a hoot about that persons skin color.

As far as arguing with the likes of Bodhi I would suggest that he is not really an individual but a collective of not so smart sock puppets. He/they also appear here as Ben Gleck and at some time or another will pretend that they are elderly, a combat vet, a union worker in some unnamed manufactury , or whatever he/they thinks will influence your opinion.
He/they really can't defend their side of the argument and so resort to random facts and accusations of racism/fascism/whatever-ism.
Bodhi and his sock puppet Mr Gleck are the typical apparatchiks of the dying left trying to destroy a free society. They are the last of the true believers who will die thinking that the world hated them and capitalism destroyed their pathetic existence.
The sad part is that they may succeed in that destruction but die before they taste the bitter results of their ardor.

Just a small comment, since I came here as a war refugee from Bosnia some 14-15 years ago (I would not wish that upon anybody, but maybe serbs). It is true that some of the refugees abuse welfare system, for whatever reason, more often than not someone else does that for them, most of them do not speak English or know the rules to do it. So you have your 'ambulance chasers' if you will. But if you do not have refugees, who else would buy house in Cornhil :). Besides, did you hear about Alabama counties with 25% of working population on permanent disability, and they have no refugees (story from This American Life).
And one more thing, I (and most of us refugees) paid everything back to the government including my plane ticket ($510 - 14 years ago). Came here with $100 and no friends or family. Today we own 300K and 100K home in Utica/Whitesboro area, and believe I've got nothing but the bills from the government on all levels. I just would repeat late Tim Russert when he said. "Boy, what a country". You are what you think about, so go get out of the cave kill something and drag it home, you will have enough that you will not care what some pure souls are doing around the country.

Teo, the McCarthy era just called for you. They want their paranoia back.
BTW, While it's true that the Democratic party was pro slavery. And perpetuated the Jim Crow movement, when Johnson, a DEmocrat, signed the Civil Rights Act in 1964, he said "we (meaning the Dems.) will lose the South for a hundred years" . And it looks like he was right. Your Libertarian uber capitalist , Rand Paul, while campaigning for senator of Kentucky , said he would move to repeal that same act. Have you noticed how the deep South has voted in the recent past? In fact Dixie was about all Romney did win in 2012. Ask yourself if all these vile racist comments on this site were made by Republican voters or Dems?
I just returned from a trip to Ottawa. You really should check it out. It might help dispel some of that free floating paranoia you are struggling with. It looks like social democracy is running on greased wheels up there. If that's what a socialist ell looks like, give me some.
Try to calm down and have a nice day, my dear friend.

Sock puppet BG,
Wow, what a savvy world traveler you are! You went all the way to
Ottawa!(Nice city by the way). You claim from this fact finding mission that you now know all there is to know about "social democracy".
Canada has been ruled by the Conservative Party for many elections now and they have stepped back from the brink of full fledged "Trudeau-ism" and now have a more free economy and press than does the US. Funny about how most conservative governments have more free societies than leftist governments. Sweden and Norway are have begun to move away from "social democracy" as well.
Compare those countries with Cuba and Venezuela which of course are both leftist (progressive) dictatorships. Venezuela is in the midst of social unrest driven by the Chauvinistas and their Cuban armed mercenaries. The unrest began because of shortages of every day necessities and suppression of the free press that began under Chauvez and has continued under his hand picked successor Maduro. All leftist governments eventually move toward state control of everything. Leninists, Stalinists, National Socialists all did the same thing and became nightmarish facsimiles of what they promised. That is the reason I cringe when I think that there are some people who are so naive and so self assured of their own intelligence that they swallow leftist pap and ask for more.
Funny that you seem to equate me with Sen. McCarthy with no evidence that I am as crazy and drunk as that cretin although in all fairness most of those who were accused of being communists were in fact communists.
I'd prefer that you would mention that his closest allies on the Senate UnAmerican Activities Committee were John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Richard Nixon who were all progressives. You know just like you. The Kennedy brothers also wire tapped Martin Luther King because they were such good progressives.
Lyndon Johnson was a racist in no uncertain terms and the civil rights act was pushed through because of Republican votes as the Democrats couldn't muster a majority of their own party to pass it.
The idea that you think that Republican party has risen in the south is based solely on race is just nonsense on stilts. It has more to do with the Democratic party threatening to take away their guns and force their own leftism on to them and many southerners resent being lectured by the likes of you and other NE progressives.
Yeah Progressivism is just such a wonderful thing that is why it has to be forced on those who disagree with its philosophy.

My friend Teo, how's things at the Glenn Beck school of historical nonsense? Surely the southern crackers love their guns, Jesus, and porking their sisters. But, they were perfectly happy as ""Dixiecrats" , while perpetuating the Jim Crow era in the south. You're either very young or very stupid. I'll go with the latter.
They have national health insurance in Canada. According to your right wing ass-h#le thinking , that would be extremely leftist, right? But, I don't see any Gulags, or down trodden proles up there. I believe in fair Capitalism. With some socialism where it works. You seem to be a stooge for the corporatists that are reaming this country into squalor.
You figure if you just suck up to the super rich, tey will eventually throw you a few crumbs. Don't hold your breath sparky.
Wouldn't it have been easier to just paint the front of that filthy ghetto building of your,. instead of spending the rest of your life hating the government? Tell us again how you single handedly gentrified the lower east side of New York, and Brooklyn. Then commenced to get bogged down on Oneida square.
Do you really believe that everyone who happens to have a different opinion on guns or health care is a commie? You might need some medication
