Wondering

Utica OD article commenting on Esche restaurant owing Utica money makes me wonder if his proposal for Utica hockey franchise will receive NYS money for his newest private venture.

If the NYS Budget for the upcoming year includes monies for this boondoggle, I want to know which local elected officials supported this expenditure rather than fund infrastructure assistance.

Get these people to pay what they owe before any rents before city even talks about anything else. Danielles and Aqua Vino. They appear to have broken lease agreements. No renewels. Let them close and city go after owners.

I do not like Rob, He has turned into a real pric in life arrogant and self absorbed. however learn to read. The article did not state he owed the city any money.

If there is something in the New York State budget for the AHL team there will have to be an explanation as to why. The Aqua Vino and Danielle's deals are great examples of why taxpayer money shouldn't be used to support private enterprise. The taxpayer always gets screwed it seems like.

If i misread the od re aqua vino then I apologize. My focus was of course on the fact that he may be looking for state money for hockey, which I believe is wrong for utica at this time.

Did you read the article? Esche doesn't owe the city anything. The city owning a poorly conceived marina was the point if that portion of the article.

The owners of the restaurant at Valley View Golf Course are behind on their rent.

The headline didn't match the OD article which leads to confusion.

Regardless, it still shows how these partnerships work. In the end it is the taxpayer footing the bill.

Esche doesnt owe any money. He's not Dave Morgan lol

But looks like the contract may have expired. If I was him, I'd see about moving the restaurant maybe build a place on Harbor Lock Rd. or something. That building has had issues from the start.

It's kind of funny how all it takes is one person to misread an article and then all of a sudden the person named in the article is somehow a scumbag.lol

If he wasn't in there it would probably just sit empty. So is it a good deal for him or the city or everyone. Hanna wasted money building that marina with no plan. Why are they not selling fuel.

I agree the deal Jeff has is crazy. He only pays 5 percent of sales over 500k. He may do 500-750 k a year there but however does he hide.

Plus he's got a stranglehold on catering and beverage service at the Stanley.

It certainly isn't necessary to admit you have no degree. At 28, you sound more like a third grade holdover without the perspective:) putting tax money into a bldg is not economic development, nor is it prudent when the city's infrastructure is crumbling. Once you leave your mommy's breast and venture out into the world, find a job, pay some taxes, come back and I'll explain what economic development really is. Now, go clean up your room.

So I guess its more prudent to put state money into a traffic circle? I mean that's the city's infrastructure right? How many people will be attending and spending money at the traffic circle this year?

So, you also have no degree, and sound like a second grade holdover. You don't understand infrastructure nor economic development. So you must just be in here to show where you measure up on the moronic scale. I'd say you are in the lead by a wide margin:)

Actually I do have a degree but thank you for assuming otherwise. Now please tell us mr wise one where you would spend federal and state money? Another traffic circle to improve infrastructure? More trees along the parkway? A median down the middle of genesse st? Please enlighten us. We all want to know. What's your grand plan to increase economic development? Hurry up...your second grade classes start at seven thirty tomorrow.

You are way off base.

The poster who corrected you is right about the age of the Aud. You are right in that it needs upgrades and maintenance. They are burning through the $1 million they have for some of those things as well as the update of the facade. I am not talking about those things that are necessary to keep the AUD a viable venue for UC hockey, circus, concerts, Globetrotters.....

I'm talking about the upgrades that are specifically targeted at an AHL team. Luxury boxes, additional seating and a video scoreboard to name a few. I get that form reading available information about what an NHL parent team(company) requires for their AHL affiliates. I didn't just pull that out of thin air. Those things are not necessary except to fulfill the requirements of an AHL team that will only serve a very small number of people relative to the whole taxpaying population. If I thought that this would in any way improve the local economy then I would be all for it. It won't.

I am a taxpayer who has to get front end alignments on my cars about twice a year because the roads I drive on are in such poor condition. Utica zeroed out the paving line in their budget because there was no money without a tax increase above the cap. Under the ground there are portions of the water and sewer systems that are over 100 years old and deteriorating. If you live in the Utica City School District you know that while the taxes are going up positions and programs are being cut again. Why that is happening is another discussion but for purposes of this conversation, it is what it is. Given these things does it really sound like a good idea to allocate taxpayer dollars for an AHL team?

I have nothing against Rob Eshe or against having an AHL team as long as I don't have to pay for it the way that I along with the rest who pay taxes have paid for these projects that are always touted as being "key" to a turnaround and then in the long run always fall short. Make no mistake. This IS one of those.

As evidenced by your lack of proper spelling, grammar and pucntuation, there is a greater need for those even in persons who maintain they possess a degree. No more teacher cuts, please!

I agree with you also. We should not have to pay extra in taxes for a ahl team to come here.
I thought that the state gives us 2 million towards paving. That is what I read on wktv. Am I mistaken.
