Take your kid out of there and run......absolutely outrageous that they would stuff kindergarten with all those refugees. NOT any kind of learning environment unless you like chaos and violence. Your kid will only learn bad behavior in that atmosphere. Read it and weep___

Putting your kid in that environment would be liking dropping a 5 year old off at the tower of babel and expecting him to learn...what a farce....I'd never put my kid in that horrible environment. The state dept of ed should come in and stop this bs and the refugee center should be closed. The kids that were born here are being harmed in that awful atmosphere. What you will end up with at the end of 12 years will be illiterates who are good for nothing

The city should really turn one of their many empty schools into one devoted just to ESL. Then the English speaking children don't have to be held back and taught at a slower pace. With almost 300 just in kindergarten there is an obvious need and I am pretty sure they can find a grant for that.

This is awful. A sound leadership would try to control this. The children born here are being shortchanged as are their tax paying parents. You'd be better off homeschooling or going to the charter schools. The refugee center has ruined the area and destroyed sound edication.

The purpose of the refugee center was to repopulate a dying area. The plan was to settle these people in the area and help them find employment and build up the tax base. Unfortunately, that plan has backfired. Those refugees that are working hard are sick of Utica too and are moving out quickly. Some are leaving the state and others are simply running to the suburbs.

Wetmore or is that beyond repair?

Wetmore would be a great location. Remodel it for ESL students and UCSD offices. Then tax payers don't have to waste money on the horrible lease agreement on Parkway.

Wetmore is totally beyond repair. That is the reason the district remodeled Conkling School and moved the admin. bldg. to the Parkway. Between the asbestos problems and the water damage the cost to the district would be unfeasible.

Glad my kids are outta that hell hole. Bet the parents in the few remaining nice areas of Utica are thrilled with all of this. would love to see dozens of ragtops trotting around a kindergarten class in Jones and Hughes---not.

Bet the teachers are thrilled too. There go their scores down the drain which puts their jobs in jeopardy. I'm not a teacher but you have to admit that packing a room full of kids who don't speak English and then grading that teacher with the same ruler as a teacher on Long Island is highly unfair to say the least.
