He likely left because the left field fans were acting like animals. They didn't care if they were right or wrong. Would it matter to the mob if he was trying to knock out a teenager, or if he was trying to protect a kid who was getting cleated? No. They didn't care. They were going to confront and escalate and then worry about the details of justifying their actions after the fact through some slanted presentation of half truths.

When there is an angry mob, you don't stand around and try to reason with them. It is fight or flight. I am guessing he might have wanted to fight but common sense and the advice of others likely convinced him the only way to diffuse the situation was to leave.

To finish this thought... if he had ran onto the field and air mailed a bomb like the pitcher did, that would be one thing. He could have blown up the kid who was triple teaming his son. If he wanted to. He didn't. Instead he grabbed the aggressor by the collar, lifted him off the ground and walked him to the fence. There was force. The situation might have demanded some force. I've seen cops break up fights like that.

Where is the video? According to the Utica OD:

It's in the OD so it must be true...

His bosses son plays for New Hartford. He ignored the push from the NH player and ejected the Whitestown player.

Bad articles and poor reporting is why customers stop buying the OD.
Ever wonder why they moved the printing operation to Binghamton.

Another false accusation but not surprising . Every legion official at the game gave reports that the Stewart boys started the whole fight .First push ,First punch , First kick. These people were eye witnesses and said the comments from whitestown parents were discusting. These reports were not from NH people.. You can accept these reports , or cry conspiracy either way it will not be tolerated

That strategy doesn't even work in the movies anymore!
In the end the minor won't have a record. Not an issue just an inconvenience.

He was tough enough to grab a 14 year old who is restrained but too much of a coward to confront an adult

let the kids settle it. In my day a date and time and place would be set and the two involved would meet with an even number of each from each side around them, no one jumps in is the rule and let them go at it till one is out or gives up.
Then its over and settled.
Kids are so babied by parents these days. maybe if they played sandlot more growing up instead of constant organized youth sports, they would have been in fights without parents around, be able to settle things themselves and deal with conflict on their own.
Many time in sandlot baseball and football we would have confrontations sometimes fights sometimes not but we all learned how to deal with it and respect was learned the right way not through parents coaches connections or money!!! Let it go adults move on in your pathetic lives. Let the kids deal with it.

That is one way to look at it.

Another way to look at it is that he was smart enough to exit before the mob of adults planned to politely jump him in the parking lot.

Because judging from the behavior to that point, you can safely assume that there would have been no "confronting an adult" if he chose to stick around. It would have been him vs. the mob. He certainly wasn't running from the cops. I mean, they can find him and arrest him anytime.

Besides that, I have to assume by "restrained" you mean the innocent victim of his vicious grab was repeatedly kicking and stomping on his son with his spikes while his son was already on the ground.

Anyway, I don't know many men who fight their battles 4-5 on one. That is cowardly.

Utterly amazing that 2 kids can start a brawl , Throw a sucker punch when a kids not looking then his brother and him kick him with cleats and schin guards while kid is down. More incredible is the parents on Whitestown that think its OK! Only see people defending them. Our kids in Utica would be crucified

Fat drunk and stupid is no way to go through life. Don't blame all the Whitesboro people for those nitwits . They go to the games to be loud drunk and obnoxious..Most of the Moms here hate that but a bully is a bully that's why the kids resort to fighting when they lose. A lot of great kids here that don't deserve to be tarnished

People can get on here and make false accusations and disparage people all they want.. Every legion official at that game with no ties to NH or Whitestown has put the blame squarely on the Two Stewart kids and Whitesboro parents on left field line. They assaulted the Desins kid at home plate and parents were making disgusting remarks that everyone heard. These reports are not from NH people but officials at the game. Now the aftermath with the parent grabbing the kid to stop him from kicking with schin guards.and metal spikes which are weapons is being investigated by Utica PD
Add -- two DRUNK parents on the left field line who should NOT have been bantering with the CHILD in left field!!

This whole situation could have been avoided if alcohol hadn't had a hand in assisting the two WB parents on the left field line in heckling a CHILD playing the GAME in left field!! I'm all for drinking responsibly; however, I've seen alcohol-infused parenting involved too frequently in boys baseball starting from when their kids played Little League and ending when they're watching their grandchildren play t-ball. Afraid to say that it happens not only in my community, but in others, including rivals New Hartford and Clinton. If we, as parents, only remembered to keep Happy Hour out of children's sports, these atrocities may not happen so easily!! Just sayin'
