Palmieri, you promote this crap for the economy? BS....8 teams, 2 local, they eat McDonalds and the other teams are not far either. Wasted money on using taxpayer dollars for using the UFD to pump the flooded field. Total BS Mayor, you lost my vote. Legion ball sucks too. I read about a game that had 11 errors in it. Waste of money.

It definitely helps the economy here you nitwit. 8 teams and all their parents and relaives coming to utica to stay, eat and drink spending money here that otherwise would be spent elsewhere. There also is 60 reprresentatives from the American Legion here from all over the state..

I can say first hand that the organization of this tournament is absolutely terrible. The people running it are changing the rules as they go along and the best interest of the safety and health of the players is nowhere near a top priority.

This entire group of scoundrels that make the decisions at this event should not be near high school aged players. Teams have spent thousands of dollars to get here, only to play games on this gross old field that doesn't even drain!

There are 20 better locations for this tournament across the state, so why is it here? I will tell you why, you're the only county in ny that even plays Legion ball anymore and the cronies running this district are making a little money at it.

I tried to ask the tournament director a question about the format changes on Thursday and he said "don't you worry about it honey". Honey? Really Mr. Needs a clean shirt and a bath?

Be ashamed!

Go Mariners!

If we are the only county in the state that plays legion ball then it would make sense to have it here, no? I take it your team lost. Don't be a poor sport, honey.

I can tell you that the team that wins this would compete well against the teams in Florida of high school kids. If you're so confident, send one of your teams up here to go head to head...

Legion baseball in NY state is trending downward as well as nationwide. On their own website ( www.legion.org/baseball/teams ) you can see how many teams each state has. NY has 111 of which 80 are senior teams and 31 are junior teams. The senior team number was 100 in 2012 so in just 2 years NY has lost 20 teams. Nationwide the 2012 total number was 4209 and in 2014 it has dropped 9,1% down to 3842. Legion ball is still very good however the aging legion personnell that run the nationwide program along with the old fat buffoons that run the NY state program need to be replaced for the good of the program. In NY state there are no programs below Westchester County and Eastern New York programs are drying up. Most of the concentration is in Oneida County, Western NY (Buffalo and Rochester areas) along with the southern tier. Locally full rosters are a thing of the past, whether it is a high school team or a legion team. Baseball is just not a popular sprort any longer locally and nationally.

The only alarm is what you need to wake up to. Google the Am Legion World Series web site to educate yourself. This year's will be in Shelby, NC beginning Aug 14th. Teams from all CONUS will represent the thousands of US teams that play Am Legion baseball.
Just because you have no personal affinity for the sport, doesn't mean it is not relevant to the US.
Having said all of that, I will agree that the local tournament management is sorely representative of the national program. Mr. Salsbury must be turning over, knowing what it has become here.

Quite simply put, you know not of which you opine. There is no drama nor hype in the hearts or minds of the 12 yr olds who play Little League baseball; there is only the joy of the game and the fraternity born therein.
The drama and hype is exclusive to the knucklehead adults who do not partake within the arena of competition. Until you gain the experience known to these participants, or develop the cognitive ability to embrace the concept, please refrain from your moronic spewing.
You embarrass yourself.

It's not really the sport that is trending downward, it's Legion baseball. Just not many good D1 college or pro athletes played Legion. Travel ball is the gold standard in high level youth baseball today.

Nothing wrong with Legion. Not everyone can afford the substantial cost associated with travel ball (airfare, hotels, rental cars) nor the time. Legion serves a purpose but not at the level of Perfect Game, Area Code, USSSA or UA events.

Nothing wrong with Legion. Good affordable option. Many kids at the 17/18u age don't enjoy travel ball. Many just want to play locally with friends.
