Help Me Out...How to handle unfair coaches with young children??
My son is in baseball 10 year old division. He is a pretty good player and was pretty much recruited by this team however now he is being played mostly in the outfield while the 3 coaches kids are always in the key postions. I would like to know how to deal with coaches that are all out for their own kids and who give other kids very little playing time in key positions. We have also experienced this situation with football. My son was in tears today because he played the whole game in the outfield and never gets to pitch and this is why they asked him to play on this team based on his pitching skills. We have tried making comments and subtle hints but it all goes ignored. Also, one of the coaches is VP of the league. I would love to hear from other parents who have experienced this and how they have handled the situation. Thanks!
6 years ago I forgot to mention, he is an excellent first baseman but they hardly let him play this position either.
To Spencer, it sounds like you are one of those fathers that coach!

Yeah, its not WBORO, there is no VP there so whomever stated this is not from WBORO. Thank you for clarifying that its not WBORO. Plus we don't have Spencer's in our area, we use our last names to call each other out.

Volunteer. Join the board, become an assistant coach, run the concession stand, just do something to contribute to the league. This is about parent's, not kids. It's a clique and the parents that put in the most time will come out on top.

I've been through this myself. Just encourage your son to keep playing if he likes it. Don't focus on the negativity of what happens in these programs. It could make your son/daughter dislike sports. There is nothing you can do to change how and where the coaches play the kids. If your child is an exceptional athlete they won't be able to deny his/her talent if they want to win. Practice and work with your child. Stay positive! It does change somewhat when they get to the modified level.
