Tony was fast.Marie was good at taking orders but a bit snippy. I remember bob who was ok but sloweoJoe was a funny grumpy guy but good at waitering.Thats what made the atmosphere.Richie was also a outsider but they kept him on.He was trusted. I remember the lamb bakers.Donaldson and another chap i cant remember his name.John worked himself to the bone and came to work sick at times. Never took a day off.Dominick kept the place under control and had a guy Louie Scalzo who drove him around until a falling out. There were two named dickie and rock who helped in the kitchen at one time.Jake and rip drank and argued

Utica used to be filled with uneducated people. The comments made on the OD editorial page proved this. Anyone with an education was smart enough to leave.
Today, we are supposed to be more intelligent, but I see by some comments here, that is not the case. Either you say good things or nothing at all. Joe's restaurant is just that. The people who eat there want to. No ne can force another to do what they do not want to. If, you do not like it-stay away! These nice people don't care what you think! Ever see a Saturday night? You could not get in the door. That, says everything. Yes Marie and Tony are who hey are-tough! I have nothing but respect for them, having eaten there for many years, spent many hours there tossing down buckets of fresh beer.
people complain-yet keep going there? Hey, the door swings both ways, and Marie and Tony are RETIRED! After being on their feet for all those years-I cannot blame them. I miss Joe's, the old Joe's. But, no one can take the place of the people who operated the place for all that time. It's just not the same anymore-but-still Joe's.

Nice job, evensteven; my point exactly. I wish they'd open the dining room back up, but I'm grateful that it remains open at all. Let the ignorant masses go to Olive Garden, or stay at home and open a jar of Ragu. Customers vote with their feet and their wallets, and I don't see any empty chairs when I'm at Joe's.

Dear Mick-see "ignorant masses" above. Not sure where you dine, but if I had to guess I suspect that your version of fine dining is the Ponderosa buffet. I'd prefer to leave Joe's just as it is; if it's "cleaned up" as you so eloquently put it, it might tempt you and the other riff-raff to stop in.
