You people are SO depressed here...just listen and read what you state and type!! You're so stuck in the 80's and 90's with your hockey (sports mentality in general) with the whole "we been down that path before".
Get a grip and dive into a change for once. People learn from their mistakes and this time around it's Esche who's involved. Like him or hate him he's a LOCAL here; the last thing he's going to do is screw us (like former teams did 20 years ago), especially when he's trying to run his own business in the area.
I don't care how bad/good a local economy is, with GREAT management any hockey (or sport) team can work if managed and run well. That will require trust from the fans and community. With that I will say this: I agree that they're better off declining a team rather than going with only a year or two contract. We need more commitment than that, especially as it will probably take at least one season to get you angry/depressed fans back!!
Most of us would love to see the AHL return, but we do not want to pay the team to come here. Like any other business, they need to turn a profit on their own.

Very closed minded. Without government support NOTHING will come to utica.

heard Heenan dropped his name out of the west coast job so he would have a shot at this job, you have to admit this guy is funny.

Two things. Heenan didn't drop his name from the Alaskan job as the school issued a statement saying they were expanding their search which basically just means they weren't happy with any of the candidates and Heenan has zero chance of landing an ahl job without professional experience.

Per the subject's title ... is this happening or what? A report in the OD on 2/24 says "absolutely" now here we are on 6/03 with an IDK?

Weird and suspicious to say the least.

Not true.

Since when has the "build it and they will come" approach worked out in the long run? Short answer-never. Look at the chip fab site. What would you say it is that keeps a manufacturer from jumping on that site? No AHL team? No riverboat gambling in the harbor? Since businesses exist to make money one can reasonably assume it's because they can't make money here. Why can't they make money? Unions? Transportation costs? High taxes? Lack of adequate infrastructure?

The real answer lies with looking at states that are doing well economically and trying to emulate their success. The successful states are right to work states with lower taxes. They are states that don't offer every manner of social welfare program. Those are states that may offer some short term incentives in order to attract business but businesses know there is money to be made in the long term as well.

All that aside, no business is going to move to the Mohawk Valley because there is a taxpayer financed AHL team here. If you think otherwise then you a surely not right in the head.

I hope everyone remembers Mayor Palmeri, Senator Griffo and last but not least Assemblyman Brindisi when their respective election days come. These are representatives who don't realize that if there isn't money to pave the streets, there shouldn't be a taxpayer funded hockey team.

It's very much the truth. No viable business has any incentive to come to the utica region without government incentives.
