As far as functionality, capping a window is WAY better than using silicone caulk only! Silicone caulk is a bad choice anyways (more so if you're not caulking) because the surfaces have to be perfectly clean.
Capping the windows properly will keep moisture off the outside frame, make your windows look new, and eliminate any need to paint the outside frames.
Also, if the home has vinyl siding existing, someone skilled with metal bending can bend the aluminum around and into the existing vinyl jchannel so that there is NO seam.
your giving good advice ,but the creeps on here will only bust them on you and make it a bad day for you ,this area has more then it share of low lifes

that's what paint is for on wood frames. Aluminum dents and looks like crap after a couple years.

silicone caulk works just fine. lasts forever. and can be found for $4 a tube.

Most people don't want to paint, i'm sure you know that. capping looks great and holds up forever long as it's installed properly.

Not sure if you've ever used it but OSI quad is FAR superior to any silicone and has none of the problems of it. It's like $5.50 -$6 and never cracks, sticks to anything, never discolors, is paintable, comes in hundreds of colors, sticks to moist surfaces, and lasts pretty much forever.

Difficult to use because it's like tree sap and it takes mineral spirits to get off hands but you don't have to tool it, it self tools even.

I'd never advertise myself on topix; capping is something every reputable window installer offers.

Not all vinyl windows are the same. Some of the companies named offer great windows, unfortunately, the markup is so high that they are outside of the budgets of most consumers. You want a window that has a u-value under .30 and a shgc under .30 ......or better! The window, up to 101 united inches, for a good quality window will cost you $160, any thing less than that I'd be careful of the quality. No need for triple pane unless you live near an airport, a highway, or noisy area. Stay away from Krypton filled.

there is no bigger rip off than NY Slashers, and I should know, I am a carpenter. Buy 2 get 1 free? Really? Normal installed cost for any other LEGIT installer?$700 to a grand.@ NY Snatch,$3200.00 sure they will give you one free. Morans. Push them, they will give you one for one, cuz they need your money to buy more commercials..
I have the seat next to Bernie Madoff waiting in hell for them. And I'm just the Diety who can do it!
By the way, I gave Jill those ears she's hiding so the fellas would have something to hang on too!

Last year I purchased a home with replacement windows. Had atleast four that were fogging up and leaking. Thought the could just be resealed and repaired. Wrong.... Thermal Guard are total crap. They are sealed and not repairable.

I went on line to try and find the company, they are gone. Unbelievable number of terrible comments from customers, and all similar issues. Anybody else got screwed by this company? Anybody know who represented them in this area? Anybody know of a solution, short of new windows?

They are repairable. You need to get the sashes replaced. You've got the classic seal leak that all double pane windows can have.

find out who made the window. that is a start. Usually somewhere on the sash is a label. Seal failures are the most common complaint of replacement double pane windows. Fogging and moisture between the panes.

I have the name "Thermal Guard". They are out of business, and they are the ones that the net is full of complaints about. All the internet comments say these windows are not repairable.
