I think that you are correct. If everyone who complains without improving the situation would just leave, the city would be much better.
I have news for you. I don't know where you have been the last ten years but most of the people who said they were going to leave left. Thousands of them. The only ones remaining are those who have there kids still in school or sick parents they are taking care of. The only ones in Utica remaining beside them are the thugs and thousands of refugees. Man, open your eyes and look around you. I don't even have to say a word. Read a newspaper or magazines and we are on the bottom of every list and poll they come up with. Sheeze, people are only stating the truth with back up facts. Utica has been a dump for years now. No one in my family still lives years and have been begging me to leave now since my parents died.

When you live in a City where the immigrants and welfare recipients are treated like gold and the government officials, policemen & firemen are treated like royalty while your middle class can't get by and isnt given any acknowledgement, then there's issues. If we would stop bringing in the immigrants and paying them and the welfare lifers to do nothing, we might get somewhere. Instead, raise taxes on the middle class homeowners then cry or lie about people packing up and leaving. Make up your mind! Palmeri is NO better than Roefaro or Julian because all the people at the roots of the City are still there screwing it up still and lining their pockets.
And this is while Piccente is running the County into the ground hiring is family & friends and trying to steal businesses for them as well.
State needs totakeover, and it's the only way to get rid of the scum that runs and plagues this city.
the immigrants are the only people hustling in utica. they didn't let all the houses go to ruin they're fixing them up. the immigrants are opening new businesses. sure there's alot of welfare recipients here but they're mostly local white trash and blacks-and even they are a small minority. the immigrants didn't chase the jobs out-they're actually working. do i need to point out all the hot Latinas and Bosnian chicks that are part of the beautification project? typically, people pick the least powerful and blame them for shaping the economic situation. white people made the decisions that chased out all the jobs-people like rep. boehlert. the decline of utica was pretty much done before the immigrants started to come here in large numbers.

I have to say that it's not so much the immigrants but what is wrong is that they now feel they own the city in some way with their lion heads at the entrances of their homes etc. They should be grateful for even having a place to live and our city had to be the one to accept all these people in to begin with. Not saying that if you go to Syracuse, Rochester or anywhere else you don't find them because you do!!!! Yes, they do fix up their property etc. not that it looks fantastic because most of the time they have four or five different colors on their homes and pull out all the shrubbery which really beatifies the area, but where do they get their money from to do this type of stuff??..They work? well maybe, but there are people who have lived here for their whole lives who work hard and are not able to update their homes or buy the cars that these people drive around in! What's wrong with this picture? The people who were born and raised here should come first!!!! no matter what!!! instead of handing these people the money, jobs, materials and allow them to take over in a sense where they should actually be thankful to even be here. Sorry but that's the truth. That's not to say that some of these people are nice etc. because as I've said many times, there are good and bad in all nationalities! Something needs to be addressed and straightened out soon so that the people who have the real rights to live here are treated the same.

Of course we are still interested in the area and the people. I have many friends and family there still. I grew up there and have lots of good memories. Because I moved away doesn't mean I cannot still have an opinion. In fact, I have a more objective opinion because I know how much better other places can be. The people who choose to stay there would rather try to be a "big fish in a little pond" instead of expanding their horizons. But don't insult those of us who still comment because we still hold an active interest in what happens there.
Why should someone have to live in a big city to have a valuable and fulfilling life? America is made up of small towns and cities. Plenty of people lead ahhpy lives in the places they grew up. You take the bad with the good here. I don't think anyone is under the illusion that Utica is great. But to constantly rip it apart is NOT PRODUCTIVE.

basically everyone on this baord is a complete and utter moron and this whole website should be deleted from existence.

Rust Belt cities will always be like this until higher powers (The US Government or God) decide that a drastic change needs to be made. This is happening in Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, etc etc. Where are the solutions? I tell you, having Obamam 4 more years ain't gonna solve this issue.

Utica is the whipped cream on a sundae. Kind of artificial and filled with empty calories but it wouldn't be a sundae without it.

I call it "THE UTICA SCOWL".

Funny thing is, if you walk around here with a smile on your face, it really pisses them off. Lots of very miserable people.

My friend who lives in Atlanta, GA came up to visit not long ago. He told me that everyone in Utica has what he called "Utica face". Everyone here to him seemed to have an unfriendly look that scared him. He told me that most everyone that he talked to did not seem friendly, and most really didn't care to talk to him. I would agree. Utica has such a terrible reputation that I no longer tell people that I am from Utica. My answer is that I am from "near Syracuse". At least most people have heard of Syracuse and don't have a bad opinion of it. When people hear that someone is from Utica, they instanly think that person is some sort of unsophisticated, uneducated, ill-mannered hillbilly that lives in or near a mobile home park. It is not a good image. I hope to someday be one of those happy Uticans who have moved away from here and be one of those warning others about this terrible place.

No, I spend 3-4 months a year here and work from my sisters spare house she never visits and rents the other side of. And when I'm not in utica I still stay in tune and aware of what these clowns are up to because it's become a great hobby to see the people who have been asking for it for years finally get it! Call me sadistic but seeing all the "geniuses" who bugged people we knew for years finally be exposed as failures was well well worth it.

To Poster #94..smells just great. But of course..how would you know..your nose is obviously pointed up in the air as if your so above everyone else right? And the air is always cleaner when your above everyone else. Therefore, you keep your attitude and comments to yourself. More people than not think your a disgrace for the way you talk and act and your attitude. Give it up why don't you huh?

I've lived in Boston, Providence, Salt Lake City and Utica...seems like there's some negetive people in all those places...piss and moan and say they're moving and magically they come back...or they're faced with problems in their new residence and then they move again...Utica is really a lot further along now than in the late 80's and early 90's...when twas really scary.

Change will only happen if the residents of Utica are willing to get off their lazy asses and make the city better. Isn't that how America was settled and founded? By people motivated to live in a better place? I don't know why people come on here and waste energy commenting ONLINE about how bad Utica is but do nothing constructive to improve it. If you want to run for city government, please sign yourself up. You would probably get elected since Uticans are sick to death of the same Italians in government time and again. Use your ideas for good, instead of fostering negativity.
You've got to be kidding about being sick of Italians; Picente, Griffo, Palmieri, the Rome guy, all Italian Americans. Eannace, Garramone, Balzano, Turi-Clark, Julians, all Italian Americans. Most City Council members in Rome and Utica, Italian Americans. My people lead and have led for quite some time. Be proud!!!!

Roefaro admitted taking alot of trips on the 95.5's radio show but he always claimed he was taking his staff with his own money. How many trip were with the girlfriend, how many hotel rooms were they purchasing and how many did the taxpayers actually pay for. Budo was being paid over $40,000 to be his chauffer and body guard. Angelo ended up making over $60,000 a year for spokes person and started at $14,000. The sub-station wa suppose to cost $60,000 and ended up costing taxpayers $360,000, Hage had an open ended check which ended up costing us $280,000 for absolutely nothing, the $360,000 14 spot parking lot for the mosque was suppose to be for city events which we had only 2. Who got these contracts and who benefited, outside parties got $360,000 for the masterplan, It seems like every project was given and came to $360,000, aweful fishy. Serveral bonuses and raises were given out worth more than I make in a whole year, Pylman was bought out of his contract at $275,000 to taxpayers. City vehichle were seen cleaning up many properties of family and friends houses, LaBella was given a chief's position he didn't earn, Gaetano got out of paying a $300,000 demolition which cost taxpayers, we are still paying Hotel Utica's morgage at taxpayers expence, were paying for superior benefits for UPD& UFD salaries, benefits, and pension to city workers, highest ever. The lsit goes on and on and on in which happened during the worse reccession and economy since the great deppression yioelding big fat zero's for Roefaro's investments. How much money was used to cover-up the affair and kid and was it taxpayers money.

Well, maybe that's because Utica is one great big refugee camp! We can't afford to pay for these people!! They dont give back to the community. They use up the programs that we've (and our parents, and their parents) contributed to so there is nothing for us. They dirty up our area with their filthy habits. How often do you see an African Refugee working? Go to cornhill and you will see them all over, someone's paying for them to live. That's not the only problem of course. There's no jobs, there aren't any decent places to live, the taxes are too high, I wonder why.
