Anybody who thinks that professional hockey wouldn't be successful in this area clearly doesn't know their ass from a whole in the ground. When the Devils were here the AUD was always packed. It's our shitty greedy politicians that moved them out because of neglect. Then they allowed bullshit teams like the Blizzard, Bulldogs, and Prowlers who never had a chance. If we can put that many people in the seats for that half-assed overhyped college puck, then an AHL team would be no problem. It's the fact that someone might actually have to do some research and work to get them here, and let's face it, Utica doesn't "have time for that." Hence why a college runs the AUD, they didn't have to do anything for them to play there they just took what they can get, typical Utica politics. Then wonder why businesses and residents are fleeing.
I always thought the "Prowlers" was the funniest, most truthful and apropos mascot for uterus. Hey, a bunch of hamburglar looking criminal burglars is the right theme for uterus!

<quoted text>To be honest with you it seems that Utica is turning into a college sports town. As much as I'd rather see pro hockey, baseball, etc. this is what we have. Let's be honest, Syracuse is no pro sports town. SU dominates between basketball and football. The Chiefs crowds are laughable and when I've seen the Crunch play a handful of times on Time Warner, there were a whole bunch of empty seats. They say in all the college major sports DIII hockey is the closest to any DI sport. For example, Syracuse DI would demolish Utica College DIII in football but Colgate and Utica College might be somewhat competitve. I'm sure that Colgate would beat them just about every time but it might be close at times
If you said college sports broke into branching the aud whenever I would agree. But when you say hockey fans comment fully well into full house for ticket sales and AHL ten I can't agree wit you. When the devils were here that was true but not now becausse concessions and parking override the constraints if the lease and don't comply with infringing agreements.. See what Im saying?

Rob Esche is leading the search for an AHL team to return to Utica. He has been trying to convince Frank DuRoss to get involved also.

When the AHL decided to move to Albany Okl Cty in the Central Hockey League talked to Larry Conacher and Wilbur Mills about using the Roundhouse garage for a new team here but the parking was inadequate and there were no corners for face-offs. What happened to those discussions?

Delusional thinking as usual. Utica is even less attractive for sports organizations now than it was when the Devils left. This place is a craphole. The Rangers don't even know what Utica is nevermind putting a team here. Why would they send players here when the majority of the city is Bosnian and Blacks now?Neither demographic knows/cares about hockey.
Precisely. Sad but true.

I don't see any reason for the hostility. When the AHL was here in the 80's the rectified aud broke attendance of the gate house center for nearly Tues thru Thurs. On the weekends it was a ruse. The league sent Omar Visconti into oblivion to find out why, and he didn't even return the complement. So, I don't understand why they aren't going to the adversary to elicit a response. Do You?

The Aud doesn't meet the minimum requirement for seating in the AHL. They would have to build a new arena. Educate yourself or shut up.
that is totally not true - there is no minimum searing requirements, Utica would be attractive to NHL teams because they would have a lower overhead here Vs. Hartford or Albany , who are near the AHL bottom in attendance The top team in attendance in the AHL. For the past several years is the Hershy Bears which I believe is comparable in size to the Mohawk Valkey Area.

There should be no searing whatsoever in the aud. I won't stand for it. The UFD will be on the alert for such practices. And, as for the Hershey Bars, we don't need any more sugar in the diet for our young ones in the Utica area. My god, have you seen the bellies on the kids lately?

hershey has also been their since the 30's and always win championships. Have you guys ever been to glens falls sure its nicer then utica but its 1/3 the size and its also a tourist city so the winter population is possibly even lower and they have supported a team in a areana only a bit bigger then the aud. Binghamton has the smallest current ahl arena and they have been their for years and are doing just fine.

Binghamton Seats 4,710 for hockey Glens Falls Seats 4,806 for hockey Utica Aud hold 4,000 for hockey . The rangers farm team in hartford averages 3,850 and the devils team in albany gets 3,750 a night and they both play in 15,000 plus seat arenas so you can see how empty the game feels and why a move to utica is not as crazy as you guys think. Also less seats means the more demand and the team can charge a little more for tickets

If AHL hockey were in utica the should expect 12 to 15 hundred per night. That is your base pro hockey attendance.

Also an important point to realize is that Hartford and Albany charge the team a lot to rent the arena per game were Utica can offer the arena at far less of a cost - less than half what the team would pay in Hartford or Albany

The cost of rent in the aud will contribute to the overall financial picture but the business plan for ahl provides for consessions and concessional booths in order for profit and loss. Parking spaces for league officials and hot dog sellers need to be negoshiated. The mascot also gets preferred seating along eith anticipatory condtional paybacks.

DI baseball compared to DIII baseball isn't close. Same with football, and basketball. Hockey is the closest. In baseball, the majority of pitchers throw in the high 80's to into the 90's. Football and basketball the players are considerably bigger in DI than in DIII. Hockey DI to DIII is the closest to each other. You can say all you want about UC hockey but it entertains a lot of people. I'd still rather have pro hockey but this is what we have. We should make the best of it.
