Apparently the kids thought it would be fun to drag race down Mohawk St in NH but they wrecked instead. I read about it in the SYRACUSE paper.

New Hartford, NY -- A 16-year-old and his passenger were injured Sunday after he decided to race cars with another teenager and crashed, New Hartford police said.

Leighton N. Nimey and 17-year-old Grant N. Romeo lined up their cars at 6:45 p.m. Sunday on Mohawk Street at Higby Road, and raced, police said.

"As Romeo went to pass Nimey, Nimey's vehicle left the right side of the road, then slid sideways across both lanes," officers wrote in a news release.

Nimney's car then went off the left side of the road and into a ditch, police said. The car then re-entered the roadway and rolled at least twice, landing on its roof off the right side of the road, officers said.

Nimey's car was destroyed, police said. He and a 16-year-old girl riding in the car were taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and released.

Nimey, of 257 Higby Road, New Hartford, was charged with misdemeanor counts of reckless driving and unauthorized speed contest. He also was was issued summons' charging him with unlicensed operation, unregistered motor vehicle, uninsured operation, uninspected motor vehicle and failure to stay right.

Romeo, of 13 Waterford Lane, New Hartford, was issued summons' charging him with unauthorized speed contest and improper passing.

Both drivers are scheduled to answer the charges Oct. 10 in New Hartford Town Court.

Let's just hope they are all ok and learned a lesson here and move on. Good hardworking parents and an unfortunate situation. Please end it. Thanks

Did he swipe it off his fathers used car lot? I think he missed the driver Ed class this summer where they taught you how to handle curves.

These two kids didn't invent the wheel. Drag racing has been going on for the last sixty years that I could remember. Everybody met at Kuppies and headed for the CP to race. Thank God no one was injured. This is not a "New Hartford" Event, it happens all over the country. Auto companies are producing street cars with 400/600 horse power. do you think they contribute to the problem?
