Just curious.
How is attendance calculated. Is it the actual number of people who go through the turnstiles or, is it number of season tickets plus number of individual game tickets sold?

If it's the latter then the team still gets paid but it'll be concessions that suffer.

If you look at the historical attendance data for when the Devils were here it shows average attendance at over 2200 but if you were there then you know there weren't that many fannies in the seats.

As good as they played in 1st, like against crunch too, rest of the game they got dominated. Actual butts in seats 1563. Sad for a new team. You can't compare to other established teams. Who is stealing the 50/50 money (9k so far)? The Comets end of it.

The Attendance according to the AHL website was 2,500. For the record, here is the attendance for all games played tonight in the AHL:
Springfield at Adirondack 1,854
Syracuse at Albany 1,535
Bridgeport at Hartford 1,857
St. John's at Portland 1,314
Texas at Milwaukee 2,545
Charlotte at Grand Rapids 2,974
By comparison, the Comets attendance for a mid-week game is actually pretty good. By the way, Grand Rapids won the Calder Cup last year. Perspective and analysis are often better than dire predictions by idiotic people.
And what use does the typical Topix troll have for facts when they can make $hit up on the fly?

The fact is weekday games do not draw well in any AHL city. This is not unique to Utica. I was at the game last night and the Aud was almost as loud in the first period when they were actually scoring as it was during the opening night sell out.

How do you think the atmosphere was in Hartford with 1,857 people in an arena large enough to formally house the NHL Whalers? Or for that matter in Milwaukee with 2,545 in an NBA arena used by the Bucks?

And Mr. Cliffy where are all the fannies in the seats for your two teams in Adirondack and Albany? 1,854 and 1,535 Really???? I would think that the self proclaimed "Tech Valley" with all of the nano money floating around would draw better than lowly Utica.

"Attendance" really is not what it means.
It includes all of the ad money tickets given to those who purchased radio, tv, dasher boards ads, etc. Those tickets are given away for use; but, not many are actually using them.

The 50/50 money is going to Rob Esche's Save the Day foundation. Would someone like to post something negative about that?

Which is more speculation rather than facts.

How many of the reported 1,854 in Adirondack or 1,535 in Albany were unused tickets? You can't make a blanket statement that Utica is overstating attendance without knowing how other AHL cities report attendance. If they all use actual turnstile attendance then I am sure every team would be reporting numbers much lower than they currently do. Take a look at video highlights from the games last night in Adirondack and Albany. Both buildings look absolutely empty. Then look at the highlights from the Comets game. The attendance in Utica is significantly higher. In fact it is not even close.

If you don't believe me see for yourself.

BTW, if you watch the Utica clip all the way to the end you will see #19 Lain on the Comets coming to the defense of a Comets player who received a dirty hit from one of the Heat players and absolutely pummel him for it.

They didn't win the game but they are showing grit and a will to stand up for each other. The games have been close and the wins will come.

i agree hockey nut, most of the clowns on here probably haven't even been to a game or they would realize how close this team is to getting some wins. they just need to play together and get used to each other and they will be fine. the games are very entertaining, and im happy with my value received. these clowns get stuck on wins and losses, instead of looking at the big picture. as far as attendance, weeknights are tough for the entire league, and also early season games are tough, people just are not into hockey except the passionate fan.from thanksgiving on they should be a easier draw. too much going on now, i have people that want to go, but hunting season is here, sectionals in soccer and football, still doing outside work, too busy right now, ect ect..... the wins will come and the fans will come.

The ticket prices are way to high, they will last a year or two, who can afford to go more than maybe once a year, not many folks around here.

you can eat home and then buy two tickets in the higher sections for 30 bucks even. If you cant afford that 5 times a year then you probably cant afford to even rent a movie on time warner cable. Its the same cost as a movie. So if that is too exprnsive for you for professional hockey then i guess rhats on you.

Was there last night and will be there for the next. AHL is a strange bird. Your best players can get called up at anytime. Syracuse was runner up in Calder Cup and the Tampa Bay Lightning are one of the worst franchises in the NHL. Go figure. The NHL teams pay the salaries so they only care that the AHL teams bascially break even on operating costs that's why small venues like The Aud can have a team. I'd rather see a game with 2500 at The Aud then less then 2000 at large venue like Albany any day of the week. If you don't like hockey don't go. Simple as that.

I disagree truthest...pack your lunch twice a week instead of eating out and you can buy a ticket. $15 for one step below nhl caliber hockey is a steal.

im not rich, i work a full time job and two part time jobs, i guess some people manage money better than others.... and utica residents living in near poverty isn't what the comets expect to buy tickets, its the suburbs and out lying areas.if the wanted uticans to show up, the would put the tickets in with the food stamps and welfare checks....

I am wondering how the Comets attendance will hold up once Utica College games start.
