We'll all just wait and see, and hope. If they come they come, I just hope it survives. A nice paved parking lot, bar and restaurant are needed nearby...in a hurry...or else it will just be an Aud and a team with nothing to do around it.

It's ALL about the pre-game!!!

The city of abbotsford made a bad deal on their part to cover losses. They are glad to see the flames leave...who are leaving willingly actually because of the brutal travel schedule. The city however maintains the team under the same contract but with a much more region friendly vancouver Canuck team affiliation. The city of abbotsford is actually benefiting from this deal as will the flames, and the utica region. I recommend you read up on AHL hockey before you try to comment again.
I have read extensively on AHL hockey. Lowest seat price in the Northeast is Rochester at a subsidized $12. Next lowest ranges from $18 to $21 per seat per game. Those are for season ticket holders. Good luck here in Utica at those pricing schedules. Add in $8 beers and $4 popcorn, and family entertainment just went out the window:)

And, all seriousness aside, can the people of the Utican area pay AHL ticket prices?
AHL average ticky price is close to $14.00 - kinda pricey if you're taking la familia to the game, right?
Do the math... You pay for the ducats, food, drink, some Utica Flames swag and you in the hole for close to $125.00.
Can the people of the Utica area afford that? It's a valid question.
And riddle me this, Mookie - can the Utica Flames survive for more than a season if they're drawing about 2,200 - 2,400 people per game? I doubt it...
Here's what the utica Devils drew: http://www.hockeydb.com/nhl-attendance/att_gr...
They averaged 2592 people per game. That's not many.
And, The Census ACS 1-year survey reports that the median household income for the Utica-Rome New York metro area was $45,111 in 2011, the latest figures available. Utica median household income is $10,135 lower than the median New York household income and $5,391 less than the US median household income.
Has ANYONE bothered to study the numbers?
Don't get your hopes up...
Yea all that aside explain to me why the same people will put more gas in their vehicles, drive to Verona and drop that much and more at the Turning Stone! But hey...it's good entertainment!! lol

And you see the same people who don't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of there at the casino frequently!! But I guess Hockey is not an addiction!

Yes they can afford it and yes the team can survive mookie. By the way. The deal is already done, some improvements to the aud have already been completed and the formal announcement will happen very soon.
We've been hearing "very soon" since mid-february...I think it's safe to say this may not happen after all.

Vancouver has the most brutal travel schedule in the NHL, there is the thought that vancouver doesn't mind exposing the travel schedule earlier to their prospects. The current deal is bad for the city of abbottsford because they need to cover the losses of the current team...losses that are not projected if the team were stocked with Canuck prospects. The current vancouver farm team is in Chicago and the only games that sell out in abbottsford are when Chicago comes to town. Abbottsford is essentially a vancouver suburb being 45 miles away from vancouver. The flames are a hated rival of the Canucks and the team was destined to fail from pretty much the start. It would be like putting the Red Sox AAA team in Yonkers and expecting it to succeed.
I love the Red Sox !

Great analysis, spot on. I especially like the analogy of the Red Sox farm club in Yonkers. Bravo!

And even if this were a done deal and was going to be announced within the next few days, don't you think there would be more leaks of info out there other than the OD blog a month ago... Sadly to say I don't think this is gonna happen, SUX!!!

Back & Forth, Back and Forth...fact of the matter is with just 5-1/2 months before the 2013-14 faceoff I think we would know by now if a team was in the works, especially with all the work that has to be done with the Aud and surrounding areas.

So I think it's safe to say we should relate to the title of this post: Let's put the Flames talk to bed!!

Well, your guess doesn't mean shyt around here anymore. No "big announcement" necessary. If there was AHL hockey coming here the media would be all over it.
