It kind of makes you wonder how much the city is paying the international runners to run each year. The Boilermaker is obviously Utica's sorry attempt at creating the illusion that it hosts an international running event instead of just a local fun run.
Yer so fkn stupid.
The "CITY" does not pay them a cent.
The Boilermaker which is 30.00 to run with over 10,000 runners (Thats a lotta cash) pays them. Stop being so negative.

Runners World didn't seem to give the Boilermaker more than a page this year. That puts it all in perspective. They KNOW what it really is. They should call it the most oversponsered 15k parade in the world. And DAMN no big chill this year. No airplane?

It is a great time. Have you ever been? Thousands upon thousands of people cheered on the runners.
Seems like just another person who has nothing good to say and bitch about anything. Get a life.
I bet all the people in local restaurants, hotels, bars etc made some money this weekend.
How much money did you pump into the local ecomony while sitting at the computer eating potato chips and dip gaining another 5 lbs?

Great job to all that were involved!
Yeah

Why don't you educate yourself before you make comments on a public forum.
You really look ignorant to all that know about the Boilermaker.
City doesn't pay a dime.

The Boilermaker is a fabulous event for the city and the area, and in no way should anyone diminish the contribution it adds to the quality of life in the Utica area. But I am still having a real tough time in believing it adds $10 million dollars to the local economy, particularly when 85% of the runners are from New York and probably 3/4 of them live within 50 miles of Utica. I think $4-5 million is much more realistic, and if it is $10 million fabulous.

I think what offends the average person is that our politicians with the OD'd and KTV's help use the Boilermaker, the Heart Run/Walk, Saranac Thursdays and about 3 lesser events as a smoke screen to cover-up their inability to provide anything constructive to the community. Just as a note I really look forward to the above events and that also includes the Irish Fest. and the Riggie Fest..

Again, I applaud the organizers and literally the thousands of volunteers that run this great event. I just wish we all (especially the local leaders) could take a lesson from their enthusiasm, organization and sense of civic pride so that we could bring some real jobs to the area and reduce the governmental cost of living we have locally. That would really improve the quality of life for all.

That's true about the planes. They flew over my house in just moments when they were done.
