Those idiots sold off any shot of having a casino. The new casinos are going to be the death knell of Turning Stone just like the new casinos and the economy sacked casinos in Atlantic city. Numerous casinos filed in just the last month or so. Picente and Brindisi force fed them Cuomo's "deal" for a few million and a tiny percentage of Turning Stone's already dwindling proceeds. Worst payouts in the northeast who is going to travel for that retard sht? Uticans? These people were warned but the media helped them swallow the casino deal pill in return for dick squat percentage of dick squat! "Watch and see! Everything will be fine! Money and jobs will fall from the sky with unicorns! PLUS a multi region buffer zone so no other casinos can even compete with them. Now mix in the utican intellect and attitude and you tell me if anyone is going to build anything more elaborate than a henhouse in that place?
All the scams and the pensions and brass and grant payout rigging. They have lost the trust of the public and are standing in the deepest hole. What is even more amazing than all that is that their media all but ignores it like it will go away if they can squeeze out just one more boilermaker unicorn fart.
Very true. But what I find most comical is the way that region trumpets an 80 million dollar classroom that they paid for...while in the real world stuff like this is going on.

"Roughly 3,000 construction workers are on site each day. And GlobalFoundries has hired more than 2,400 employees to run the factory".

This is another 8.5 BILLION dollar facility here. Utica just figured out a way to keep a Stewarts convenience store out. Lol!

I can't believe how embarrassed I am to attend SUNYIT reading this thread. It seems nobody has a clue that it's a 4-year, engineering degree granting institution. And because of that people here in Utica think that it's a public tax drain that operates as a political scheme! Or is that not the case? Should I transfer? Why am I forced to ask these tough questions about my college?

What you people fail to understand is that maybe instead of moving elsewhere, graduate students could work for companies who decide to relocate to Marcy/Utica because the CCCC is within SUNYIT. Therefore, the brain drain is lessened and companies actually MOVE here.

Well maybe if you NIMBYs and old, uneducated welfare dwellers died off more taxpayer money would flow to this institution, OR more facilities would be built. It is NY's only full public polytechnic so why now of all times should deinvesment in it occur?

Or, maybe if the state of New York cut back social services, lowered personal/corporate taxes, eased of on overbearing regulation and stifled public/private labor union power maybe private businesses would invest and bring real prosperity. That's what actually happens in other states that are prospering even in this economy. New York still seems to think it can spend its' way to prosperity on the backs of taxpayers.

You seem very naive in what you've posted. The problem is not the local skeptics who question the reality of nano anything in this area. The problem is the government and representatives who have for generations lied to the taxpaying public telling them with each taxpayer funded scheme prosperity is right around the corner and this is the catalyst.

No nano for Utica. They don't need Bassetball stars, prison-white trash families and SamboTech who knows how to charge a poLICE radio for help.
The whole tech thing was exposed by Fox Business and John Stossel the whole tech subsidy thing NY isn't the only state that has been wasting billions on "Nano to nowhere" but it IS the most pathetic.

Taxpayer subsidies.

Reading comprehension doesn't seem to be your strong suit. Any business would accept the kind of tax breaks and incentives that are being offered and given. That doesn't make it a good plan. The true test is when those incentives run out. The taxpayers of the State of New York through their elected representatives have invested heavily in this.

Any business is going to open a branch if it isn't going to cost them anything and if the potential for profit is there. This Marcy "NANO dream" has been floated for a generation and the bottom line truth is that the only things that have happened have been completely financed by the taxpayers. You never hear that in the press releases though.

At some point it may be that something does go up at the Marcy site but it will be completely on the backs of taxpayers and no one will ever do a cost/benefit analysis to determine if the many years and untold millions(probably billions by then) of tax dollars will have been worth it. I don't need a crystal ball or an advanced degree in nanotechnology to see that same old pattern repeating itself.

Call me names. Spew your nanotech jargon. Say whatever you like. It doesn't change the facts.
