The designations don't come with a financial award from the government, but could provide an economic boost to Central New York, helping to create about 470 jobs with a statewide economic impact of $180 million, according to the NUAIR alliance.

All told, New York and Massachusetts could see 2,600 new jobs and an economic impact of $600 million by 2017 as a result of the FAA decision, according to the NUAIR alliance.

Guy from Delmar is on every post being negative about Utica. He got beat up here when he was a kid.

Quad C is being built on the SUNY IT campus with construction fully financed by taxpayers. Quad C is completely different than the nano site where CNSE(SUNY) just got a wetland permit from the US Corps of Engineers. The site is being shopped to chip manufacturers no just as it has been for the past ten years. Still no takers. Look it up. You'll see what's true and what isn't.

Nothing is now nor has it ever been built on the nano site. You can go see for yourself. Head west on Rte 49 and take a right on (taxpayer financed driveway to the empty lot)Technology Parkway or whatever the name is. At the end you'll find a sign and a driveway to an undeveloped site that looks the same as it has since forever. There is no chip manufacturer building on the nano site. Not now, not over the past year.

That's not negative. That's reality.

You are correct.

The only place that a chip fab plant for the Marcy Nano Site exists is on paper. Design paid for by the taxpayers of the state of New York. The only reason that paper plan exists is to satisfy the wetland permitting requirements of the US Corps of Engineers. The COE required an exact footprint of a proposed facility before they would issue the permit. They have that but it's just an engineering plan that's part of the application.

There is no chip fab plant. There is no construction of a chip fab plant. There is no chip manufacturer on board with renting/utilizing the Marcy Nano Site. If you believe there is then show proof.

In my opinion Oneida County government, EDGE and other interested parties have thrown out a load of unconnected information(like the Quad C announcement, Quad C is NOT chip maufacturing) in order to confuse the public. From many of the comments I've read here I think they've succeeded.

Cuomo is throwing billions of taxpayer dollars at several Nano centers around the state. They are basically taxpayer funded research centers which may or may not pay off with private sector jobs. To celebrate is extremely premature; to denigrate is also premature except for the cost. The real question is is the area able from a labor point of view to support a large chip plant owned and operated by a decent private company? No company will come in without labor being available. EDGE, the OD and all those writing articles about our glorious turn around should be required to answer that basic question before we keep spending tax dollars on this high tech quest.

Denigrate?

If we use history as our guide to what may happen we can have a pretty good idea what the future holds. How many of these taxpayer funded experiments(schemes) have actually lived up to the advance billing they were given? The answer is very few if any.

Look at Griffiss Park. Tens of millions of taxpayer dollars have been spent since the Air Force left and while there have been some jobs created, how does the return compare to the investment? If the taxpayers spend more on creating a job than the job will return over time in taxes and consumer spending then the taxpayer is getting hosed. No one ever seems to want to actually do the real accounting(not the pie-in-the-sky projections in the press releases). Probably because if they did it would show that the more logical path to prosperity and good jobs is to lower taxes, decrease regulation and break the strangle hold unions have on the state taxpayers. Common sense should tell us that is a better approach than bribing businesses to come and then seeing them leave after the bribe expires.
