agreed, but it started long before those movies came out, the REAL mafia dealings ended in utica around the early 60s after that utica and everyone in it was just doing small time dealings that werent big enough for the big guys, and they kept utica on the books for a lightning rod..if you will

IT started in the 30's with prohibition. Utica was known as little Chicago. Vice and crime were rampant, as were murders and illegal booze, that was all under control of the Falcone Bros.
Brothels were all over the place, Pearl St.(gone) where the Radison is, Uncle Hery's up stairs, and many more. In the 50's the Burke sisters who ran whore houses got busted after paying. They sang, and Utica was ramapnt with officals getting busted. 2 detectives, some patrolman, and other city officials protected the operation, until then. A special pros. was brought in. They tried to kill him but failed. And they all went down! The Utica morning paper then and a reporter uncovered it. The punks who came after were wanna be's and tried a takeover but it never amounted to anything. One of the Falcone's was at the famous meeting of the mob the cops busted up. They were never convicted.

How come Utica's Italians can't pronounce any Italian words? All they say is this "reh-GOT" garbage. Are they even Italian? Sounds phony-baloney to me.

you are speaking of the appalachin meeting in the early 1950's a little soldier of the utica mafia named mancuso was at the appalachin meeting he went to prison for a few years had one daughter and the wife and daughtwer lived on arthur street in utica, the local mob took care of the wife and daughER financially till mancuso returned from prison.. a lot of the mob in utica also took care of the economic grouth of the city, the people who were in control were rufie elefante salvatore falcone, joe falcone guy morreale , capacelatro attorey bill calli, agostino meat packing co. lots of other names, I can mention , it was the best of times for the city

thank you very much for straightening this mess out, that was practically the exact way i was told that utica worked by my father because my grandfather had a role in the booze part, but all of these young guys that were always told about the wanna bes wont agree with us, if they saw how non glamuorous and non flamboyant alot of the old timers were it would blow theyre minds, i cant count how many old players ive meet with my dad that had money stashed away that you wouldnt beleive, i remember this one old timer with a fake fire place that had a safe behind it and whenever it was being opened he would tell me that he could trust me because theives got theyre fingers cut off and i needed my fingers, it scared me the first few times when i was a youngster!, now what do you think the wanna bes would do if they knew about a safe at someones house? they would rob it because they were all dirty rats!!!!!!....do you know if the rt. 81 thing is true? ive always heard different stories

Utica wasn't the only city along the route 81 road, there were tens of towns and villages, and peoples front lawns and farm land and hills and people didn't want that road running up their property at that time. Utica was not the problem you stupid one line mental midget. Why don't you cry over how the ruling republicans in Rome didn't want a thruway exit in Rome. Talk about holding back progress.
