Reading teachers are unnecessary and could easily be replaced for the better by senior volunteers. Cutting this fat off of the heavily padded payroll is a good start but more needs to be done. How amazing it was that the race survived up until the last decade without 'reading teachers." If the classroom teacher did her job instead of looking out the window waiting for a snow day and shopping online during class time the 'reading teacher' would have never come into being. Parents as well need to take the reins and teach their own kids to read if they are struggling--they also would do a better job, at no cost, than any overpaid, fatazz daughter of a district cronie who is barely literate herself.

Nice To See The Have Their Priorities Straight. Nothing Like Classes Of 40 To Show How Great This District Is They Now Have More Security Guards And Coaches Than Teachers Of Reading. This District Has Not Made One Educational Initiative To Increase Test Scores. Unless Of Course You Mean Blaming The State, The Charter Schools, And The Teachers.

Blaming the Charter school is as lame as it could be. The problems have been going on for dozens of years, Charter school has been around for 1 year. Lame excuse Bruce and crew.

A large part of the blame is directly due to the thoughtless actions of the Refugee Center for the past decade. Dumping illiterate refugees in an area that is impoverished and on a school district that is already needy was the last straw. We could barely handle our own 'special needs' children and now we have to pay for, cater to and continually coddle the world's rejects.
The Refugee Center needed to close five years ago but they are too selfish in their pursuit of their own continued employment to admit that they have overloaded a community that can no longer handle the needs of so many outsiders. It is way past time for Karam, the board, and the taxpayers to loudly object to what the Center is doing and to petition Congress to have it stop. The other large part of the blame for this is unquestionably the corruption, patronage, and guidoism that has fueled the district for thirty years. Need I remind you who they pay a six-figure salary to in the Administration who is 86 years old and rarely makes an appearance?

Another reason to close the Refugee Center:

(WKTV)- Six Utica men were arrested Tuesday night as part of a prostitution sting, Utica police said.
Mamed Shin, 28, of Elizabeth Street; Mon Ranamagar, 23, of Brinkerhoff Avenue; Dhan Gurung, 25, of Howard Avenue; Juan Alvarado, 33, of Conkling Avenue; San Rai, 29, of Catherine Street and Basan Rai, 31, of Dudley Avenue are all charged with patronizing a prostitute.
According to officials, on Tuesday the UPD patrol division conducted an undercover prostitution operation targeting those in patronizing prostitutes. The operation used a female officer posing as a prostitute.

How are the parents going to teach their kids to read when half of the idiots in this city can't read past the 3rd grade level themselves?
