SP should pull of of their personnell out of Oneida County, the Sheriff's dept handles the majority of the calls. They should be redeployed on the T-Way, ticket writers.

Wow alot of haters around here, what you choose in life is your choice, where you choose to work is your choice. If you want to be a local, county or state take the test, pass and let the rest run its course. For you ppl that are not cops, etc you will never understand on a daily basis what goes on, 99% of the time it is nonsense but its that 1% that gets you and ultimatley may cost you your life. There have been local cops killed, tommy, joe, and there have been numerous SP's killed in the last 5 yrs. No one will ever get enough pay for what they do as police officer, you just have no idea the amount of scum bags that are dealt with on a daily basis, let it be a prostitue, a crack head or some trailer trash in the boonies that runs out of his house with a shotgun. You never know, cops stop bashing each other because when it comes down to it all we have is each other.

During my lifetime, I have had the pleasure of dealing with the NYS Troopers that required their help. Each and every time, they helped which also included a kidnapping of my daughter when she was only 18 months old (by her father) and she was returned to me the next morning by a very compassionate Trooper. I have the highest respect for them, each one of them conduct themselves in a very intelligent and well mannered attitude, and their educational background does show thru. IMO - they deserve every nickle of their salaries and there have been too many shooting and deaths of NYS Troopers in our area in the past year. I have never, never heard any tales of a dishonest or corrupt Trooper in comparison with the stories everyone has heard about some that our on the UPD.

You must be a donkey. Either way the Troopers will get paid more than you. See you on the strip.

I have a bachelors in criminal justice and a masters in management and scored a 97 on the test but others with military background got 10 extra points which had me competing with peopl who got an 87 on the test. I was never called. Go figure.

Do you think just because you have a few degrees you should be a cop, Ihave seen it from both sides and to be honest the military person that has some experience under his belt always becomes a better police officer, a degree is just a piece of paper. Experience goes a long way, I am not bashing people with degrees because some of you do make good cops but Iwould take a military person any day of the week. Go serve my friend, they are the real heroes in this world.
you, what have you done to deserve a few points, gone to school on daddy's dime.

Here is what gives. If someone got 10 military points, they were in active duty in war somewhere. You get 5 for military and 5 more for active duty in war. That is a well earned 10 points. No one is belittling your college time but who served their country more. You or someone in combat?

For the record, they did not get the same raise as other state workers. In fact a few contracts ago they recieved 8% per year for four years running while the other state unions took 0% and 2.5% raises in the same years.

The State Police have a much higher caliber of Law Enforcement Officers than UPD or the Sheriff Dept. They are very courteous, well mannered, and do NOT play "favorites" all because the guilty party "knows" someone "important". IMO - they deserve ALL pay raises; the more the better.
This is so true! Last month I saw a state trooper changing someones tire on the thruway!

I don't believe that for a second.

However, as I've said before, I do not like cops -too many liars, too many abuse their authority, too many falsify evidence & testimony.

Give me a Trooper any day. They are far more professional, far more civil, and far more screened and trained, with the emphasis on "screened."

Regarding military experience, I'd take a vet over a non-vet 9 our of 10 times, simply because I know the pressure military service puts on someone and if they can handle that, I know they can handle anything the job would present them with. That is not meant to demean non-vets. As someone said earlier, experience counts. You can educate, which is good, but you can't mimic or replace experience.

But alot of it wasn't so much being aholes as being... stupid.
Personally, I think they need to start giving these cops some IQ tests.
