Does anyone know anything about this place? Is it a good rehab facility? Is it male and female? Is it clean? Any info would be helpful.

No, it is not a "clean" facility. It's filled with both men and women (sometimes you can catch some having sex in stairwells) and most are mandated to be there And want nothing to do with getting clean and sober. Not all, but most. It accepts Medicaid, and as such, is filled with many people who are leaching the system and so forth.
I would certainly look elsewhere if u have the means to do so. Namely Tully Hill (south of Syracuse - about halfway to Cortland). I mean, McPike will serve it's purpose but if u have the ability to choose the facility, I would look elsewhere.

Yeah, just as an FYI.... Tully Hill is south of Syracuse about 20 min down 81. And it's highly recommended

Sex in the stairwells.... do they get drugs in there too?? i was told it was strict, guys and girls separate at all times. separate housing. and random urine screenings.

If your addiction is narcotics tully is good. Alchohol there are local day treatments that are very private and groups that cater to different socio-ecomonic groups intially; so everyone feels comfortable. Its not like AA in a church basement, where there are a bunch of old whiners smoking cigarettes.
The first step to recovery is knowing you have a problem. Congrats on that No Name and I wish you godspeed in your road to sobereity. All the best to you.

Never been to rehab... I am a counselor and i recommend not staying in utica for treatment. All you will learn is where to pick up more drugs.

And i'm sorry if i gave the impression i was the addict. My husband was court ordered to go there for 30 days. I was just curious as to what kind of place it was. After reading this I am truly concerned.

If he is court ordered there, yeah, it's not really going to be nice. Yes smoking is against the law at all OASAS accredited places in NYS. As of 2008 it was pretty much. Doesn't mean people don't still try and succeed in getting over. Same for the sex. Obviously they don't let addicts/alcoholics just hook up but doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Anyway - I wouldn't worry about ur husband. Just follow everything they tell u and he should be fine.

I originally spoke up about McPike because if one has a choice, I would choose to go elsewhere in a heartbeat. But if he is court ordered, nothing u can do about it. He will probably come out with more copping knowledge (if it's drugs that r his problem) but otherwise it's safe enough and structured.

If someone really wants to get sober and stay sober, it really doesn't matter where one goes.

Couldn't agree more. If you can't humiliate yourself and say out loud that you have a problem, you'll never get well. The audience or the place mean nothing.

I believe McPike is also associated with some mental disorder that is associated with addiction. It's true if someone wants to get clean it is a good start! The rest is up to the addict. My grandson was highly addicted to pain killers for for yrs. He tried several times to get clean without sucess. Finally he decided that he is young and wants to make himself healthy again. Well, he did it on his own. He stayed out of work for over a wk and really suffered getting thru this. He made it. He joined a gym, worked hard and finally gave up smoking. He did it on his own. God bless him! The reason that court order is for 30 days is because that is all the insurance will pay. I know of two different families who sent their kids to another country. Cost a fortune. At first it looked like they made it. One did, but the other one didn't. So you see there are so many stories to be told about this.

well.... i personally think its disgusting that they allow married men and women screw around while in " recovery". When people are away from there loved ones and have lost there freedom it is normal for them to try and find love amongst those there around. But for them to allow sex between patients is disgusting. From what was said, for all I know my husband could be in some stairwell right now sleeping with some heroin addict, bringing God knows what home to me and our family. And I would never know.... its disgusting. Not very professional if you ask me. Makes me wanna walk away, not go visit.

after reading these comments and some on other sites it sounds like cheating and sleeping around in rehab is a common thing. How can it be healthy to ruin family's and relationships for 30 day flings in rehab. Do the counselors who run these programs not care?? Does anyone know the percentages of affairs that happen in these places?

That's not true. However, they do have a dual diagnosis program if alcoholism or drug addiction is the primary diagnosis.

I don't think it's "allowed." People do what they do. They don't "allow" people to take a pee outside, but, I'm sure it happens. If this is what you hubby does at home, he'll likely do it anyplace he gets a chance, including McPike. I don't drink. If I go to a wedding, I don't say "hey, now I can drink!" Go visit if you want to support him. Early recovery can be tough. Don't make it tougher on either of you.

Went there to get help for my drinking. Got it. I didn't screw around on my wife, use drugs or drink. They don't allow you to smoke cigarettes there! Happily sober, employed and thanks McPike
