This woman should contact the Comptrollers Office at City Hall and see if she can make arrangements to pay the back taxes on an installment plan in order to catch up on her back taxes.

If not, once the City takes ownership of her property, they can sell it to another party just for the amount of back taxes owed to the City.

This is what the politicians don't realize - every year the taxes go up and those of us that live on fixed incomes have to struggle between eating food or paying the taxes while all the politicians care about is how much money they can stuff in their own pockets.

The comptrollers office goofs up and sends notice to prior owner address. No wonder she didnt pay the taxes, she never got a bill. It was sent to the prior owner address. Another goof up. This poor woman.

Did she think she was living somewhere tax free? Taxes come the same time every year and she never missed them? I think she works for the IRS and is playing "the dog ate my homework" crap.

$10,000 behind on Steuben Street? That's at least 5 years! Did she think they forgot?

Poor woman? Are you out of your flipping mind? As a homeowner it is your responsibilty to make sure your taxes are paid. Mr. Wolber is just using the screw up in address as an excuse. And it will work too. God forbid we didn't give her time to file for bankruptcy and stiff the city and therefore the rest of the hardworking taxpayers. Here's a hint, if you can't afford to pay your taxes in 2010 you are not going to be able to afford to pay them in 2014 plus a payment plan! Can't afford your bills? Get a roommate.

She never thought about why she wasn't paying taxes for 3 + years? Did she pay her school taxes and her county taxes? She paid off the house in the 3 yrs. she owned it, who held that mortgage?

It's hard to feel sorry for this woman. You have got to know that if you don't pay your taxes, sooner or later there will be consequences. If she had dealt with her inability to pay early on instead of hiding under the bed, I'm sure arrangements could have been made. This is a big problem with our society these days, people don't think that actions have consequences and I don't think the sympathetic tone of the news reports helps the situation.
