meaning Advantage II from the SSHS and it worked great - real cheap to. I bought "ADAMS" at wal-mart and it didn't do squat! Go to SS they'll hook you up for 17 cheaper than frontline at wally world!

My dog had one application and thank goodness didn't have the seizure issue but it did injure the skin all up and down his back and it's now a spotty ugly redish color compared to his nice creamy fur color that it was before. Obviously will never be using this product. Will be returning it to the vet. Why am I so trusting of what the vet recomnmends?????

The vets are getting endorsements for selling certain products. If you went to a vca animal hospital, simple guard is their product, Which is why they push it.

Simple Guard 3 should be pulled off the market. After applying, my dog was extremely agitated, panting heavily, and rapid heartbeat. Gave her several baths in Dawn to remove product and gave her Benedryl, after 6 hours she is still restless. Back to the vet tomorrow, if she still isn't better.
I used Frontline Plus for 8 years, with no side effects, and I am going back to using it again.
DO NOT USE SIMPLE GUARD 3, if you love your dog!

My dog had similar reaction but it was 2 weeks later, so I can't really be sure it was due to Simple Guard 3. However, there are lots of medications that say reactions can come a couple of weeks later so I'm not ruling it out. I will never use Simple Guard 3 again just in case. My puppy is one year old. His legs just quit working and he was dragging his hind end. Then he went into a full seizure. Had to spend a day in the hospital. Thankfully he is fine now.

Sorry to hear about your bad experiences! I have to say though that I've been using Simple Guard 3 for both my dogs for about a year now and they have never had any problems (they're both tiny too- 12 and 8lbs). My guess is that it's the same as any other medication- some people/dogs can have adverse reactions or allergies to meds that others can take without any problems. That being said, it's always a good idea to test just a tiny bit of a topical product the first time you give it to your dog, just to be sure he/she doesn't have any reactions.
I agree with your commnet. I have a 20 lb fox terrier and a 10 lb chihuahua/jack russel mix and they have been using SG3 for over 3 months without side effects. My fox terrier is allergic to everything and she is doing fine. Of course when i apply the medication I make sure they are supervised until it disolves completely. This is the only flea medication that works for us. Our backyard is full of deer.

Did everyone go to a VCA-owned veterinary clinic? This product is actually made my VCA, which is why they're pushing it so much. Be careful!

I was sold simple guard 3 by my vet and gave it to my small dog. Within an hour he seemed to be acting funny, within 2 hours he was panting and yelping. They told me that he may feel slight discomfort and itchy so I just held him hoping that would keep his mind off of it. He ended up having a seizure in my arms and I thought he was going to die. I quickly gave him 2 washings and a benadryl his symptoms went away. He has problems walking now and tomorrow I am going to seek a refund. Please don't risk your dogs life. I am going back to frontline which he does fine on.

OMG is everything okay.. sounds like its a chemical drug for a dog..Scary..!

I am sad to read this because my dog had a horrid reaction to Frontline Plus (purchased form the vet) in May 2012. We thankfully read to wash her off with Dawn blue dish detergent, which is a degreaser and she stopped shaking and frothing at the mouth, etc.
Interesting, the first time with Frontline Plus, she had no reaction. It was the second time.
So, I had switched to Sentinel oral tablets, but now that is not available and she is needing tick protection. My vet recommended Simple Guard 3, saying that they have no longer carry Frontline Plus anyhow? He is a very honest guy and believed that my dog had a reaction to Frontline Plus. So, he researched and found the ingredients in Simple Guard were very different.
So far we are on Day 2 prior to me applying the Simple Guard 3 and she is a little itchier than normal, but no frothing or agitation.
I am wondering if just like with humans, certain dogs have sensitivities to certain ingredients and not to others?
I am curious how those of you whose dog reacted badly to Simple Guard 3 decided upon Advantix? It is similar in ingredient list to Advantix:
Simple Guard 3
ACTIVE INGREDIENTS:
Dinotefuran..........4.95%
Pyriproxyfen..........0.44%
Permethrin..........36.08%
Advantix II
Imidacloprid 8.80%
Permethrin 44.00%
Pyriproxyfen 0.44%
It must be the dinotefuran in Simple Guard 3 that is the culprit then.
Curious if any of you have tried Revolution?
Here are the active ingredients:
Revolution (selamectin) Topical Parasiticide
I am just concerned that while this initial dose is going okay, the next one may not and I have to keep searching.
Thanks!

It's all poison. I wouldn't want any of that on a pet of mine that is in my house around me and my kids.

All you people sound crazy. I've got 4 giant breed dogs and they're all on it and we haven't had a single "reaction" let alone a flea outbreak. Maybe you need to read the instructions on the box more carefully or make sure the people your getting from are selling you the real brand and not some generic crap. I have all my dogs going to VCA and they manufacture the stuff.

And on TOP of that I've used frontline and advantix and all that other mess. THIS is the only thing that works. I mean you seriously must be high off your ass if you think "organic" flower child mess is going to work. How bout you give your dog some organic heartworm meds and call me when the vet slaps you up side the head with 3000 dollar bill for treatment? And you know the best part about this stuff and WHY I trust VCA and my vet? Because they told me that of my dog gets heartworms from and infected flea because the meds failed for Lyme disease from an infected tick that as long as my chart reflects that my pet has been on there drugs, the manufacture will PAY FOR THE COST OF TREATMENT up to $5000. That little $100 for 8 doses ain't SHIT compared to $5000 in treatment for being a fucking dumbass.

Why would you speak that way to people whose dogs had serious reactions to this medicine? Who's the "dumb ass" ? My dog is sick right now after an application of Simple Guard last night...won't walk, is shaking, and the vet is not open yet. It's Sunday. That's why I'm reading these blogs. Your insensitivity is astounding!

DO NOT USE SIMPLE GUARD 3!!! I am reading this too late. It's not a coincidence that all our pets had similar reactions to a med. my 19lb one year old French bulldog was given simple guard 3 three days ago. She vomited 2 hours after application but showed no other reaction. 48-72 hours later she was restless, disoriented, running in circles, shaking uncontrollably, whimpering and crying, weak in her back legs (she keeps laying down in random places, which isnt like her), unable to follow commands, has no interest in her toys, eyc. Once we realized it was the simple guard, We gave her a bath but it was 48 hours after application. Gave her another bath and benadryl today. Nothing has helped.

Use Frontline Plus. There's a dealer on eBay named "The Colonel" who sells singles right on up to boxes of 12 or 24 it's the real stuff and about 50% what you pay at BJs, PetSupplies or the Vet. Those are for beds and bones and piggears!

Thank you for your posts and I have to concur with the concerns regarding Simple Guard 3. My dog had been using Advantix and Frontline for years no problem then just had the first dose of Simple Guard 3 yesterday morning. She awoke in the night vomitting, then kept falling down and appeared disoriented. At firs,t I thought it was a sore hip, but then she fell literally on her face and began twitching and her eyes were moving back and forth. The vet suspects toxicity from Simple Guard 3. She is not out of the woods yet still on IV fluids and sedative to keep her from seizing. I had no idea this would happen to her....really wish I had stuck with her old medication.

My dog has the EXACT SYMPTOMS as yours 48 hours after application of this POISON, Simple Guard 3. I took her to the vet today (VCA Squire) and she admitted that it is a reaction to the Simple Guard and cannot use it again. They prescribed a muscle relaxant and told me to wash her immediately with Dawn Dish Detergent. She has to ride this out. What angers me is that they have no "adverse reactions" on the pamphlet or the box.. which I find ridiculous!! I am so upset!! Like you said, my dog is also walking and then suddenly sitting down sporadically, is overly concerned with her right hind side, laying on her back while having muscle spasms, walking with her spin curved to one side, and whimpering. This is cause for concern, and they need to address this problem ASAP!
